I finally break my silence and share how I was STEMbofied. On Personal Style And Role Models
I love that you skateboard and blog about it! I really miss it, I’m considering taking it up again, but in any case I’m living vicariously through your posts.
I managed to find parts both on eBay and a site called typewriters.com. Since then I’ve searched around a bit more, and it seems there are other small shops online that help service these. Not as many as there were back in the day, of course, but enough to keep the hobbyists going!
I created a silly but workable guide on how to convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
Glad to see something other than a dang FB group for the typewriter people. The letterpress folks have a couple long-standing websites running, but unfortunately most of the parts swaps happen in FB groups, which is very annoying.
This is such an amazing way to explain Fahrenheit! I love it.
I wrote a blog to crystallize some thoughts about how building a website is similar to letterpress printing. Also got my RSS link on my site again.
Thank you! I enjoy blogging about skateboarding. Weirdly I find that there are not many “real” skateboarding blogs. Most people just use social media, which is sad.
I have found that seems to be the way with almost every hobby I have OTHER than webmastery.
Which is sad, I’d like to look at websites about something other than software every now and then hahaha
I’m doing library inventory this week, and it’s giving me some STRONG and SHOUTY OPINIONS about bar codes:
Procrastination strikes again and I spent a few hours today working on how to communicate my PhD instead actually doing my PhD.
So I 3D printed some props for my next presentation.
Don’t you have to defend your thesis? It sounds like working on how to communicate your PhD is part of the work.
I will eventually… but that is still a little while away haha.
Although interestingly, a thesis defense is not always necessary in Australia. My university is just now working on incorporating it into our program. So it is up in the air whether or not I will have to.
Some thoughts on the web: On Browsers, AI, and the web – Manu
And an upcoming fun life experiment: Experimental June – Manu
Very interested to hear the results of your June experiment. It sounds like it will be restorative.
I hope so! I’m very curious to know if it’ll have some effects on my mental health. And if it will improve my creative output.
I’m also curious to see how your June goes. I might do a scaled back version of the no-inputs thing myself - like use my blocking software to cut back use to a few minutes or something. Very cool.
A small update, mostly following the previous one.
I’ve been reading the posts on here, even if I don’t always find the energy to say something!
I wrote a post reflecting on my disabilities.
‘Disability is not a tragedy. Nor is it a gift’

My older brother gave me a ticket to an event where you pretend to be a lab rat with a bunch of other people- and try to escape the laboratory through the power of friendship. I wrote about the experience!
