Which one? I don’t drop spoilers if I’ve read it.

I’ll try some from the Foreigner saga.

Yeah, the accidental difficulty is what gets me, since I’m not expecting it as a disabled player. Like not auto saving before a boss so I have to fight it while tired or stop and then redo the level next time (and then get too tired for the boss again). Or auto-progressing dialog too quickly for me to read and consider options, in a game I assumed would be slow and deliberate. (Although that one was partially due to frame rate differences in a PS4 game being played on a PS5.)

Darn. Life has been beating me into a pulp.

So things have not been going great, I’m gonna be honest. I was debating whether or not to make this post, but I might as well find a way to release something. I guess I just wanted a space to talk about it. It has some heavy stuff, but doesn’t get into specifics. If you’re currently struggling with disassociation/bad mental health struggles, it might get triggering idk.

I really enjoyed the first five episodes of Alien: Earth, minus some minor quibbles, and unfortunately felt the last three episodes sent things downhill really quickly… Content warning: spoilers for the series, and references to fictional horror. (No gory images, but some of the external video clips linked in the post lead to scenes from the series and the original Alien film).

I see a lot of familiar things in your post. Anger can be such a big motivator to write and put stuff out there, but the things written in anger feel so different don’t they?

One thing that I find concerning in general is the assumption that we must write and publish from a place of positivity or even neutrality. Self-limiting thoughts about how we’re supposed to engage with the process destroy the creative flow. Why should you silence your own voice if whatever is coming out is authentic and genuine (even if angry)?

I should note here that there’s a big difference between transmuting anger into a piece and directly channeling it into aggressive texts. The latter, I find, can be a detriment both to the self and others. The most authentic expression for me is not a yell but a quip.

The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Links this week include making art by melding ASCII and public domain images, artificial eyes and the intersection of Sailor Moon and haute couture. I talk about my weekend visitor and moving (probably) from Windows to Linux. Plus, as usual, I listened to, read and watched things.

On the last day of the month, I post a short recap of what I added to my website over the previous four weeks, namely: blog posts, personal library additions, and bookmarks. I posted five blog posts in September (one personal reflection on the value of higher education, two indieweb-oriented web building tutorials, and two very different takes on Alien: Earth). I also finished reading Adam Becker’s More Everything Forever, and visited some cool sites (including this one!)

More on all of that in the rewind. :meow_adorable:

Some reflections on a mentality that I’ve observed a lot since coming back to the United States.

I agree with you, and you’ve got a nice clean design for your site. I did notice something strange, however: you’ve got the entire text of your page in its description meta tag’s content attribute. Was that intentional?

No– I wonder if it came with the theme. Thanks so much for pointing that out, I’m using Hugo and when I add a ā€œdescriptionā€ line to the frontmatter, it resolves the problem. I think my theme just defaults to including the whole text.

That sounds like something a SSG like Hugo would do.
