I didn’t even think of that. Part of me was enjoying the blatant flattery. I just knew better than to fall for it.

Sometimes, I wonder if some scammers wouldn’t rather put a Ā« PIDGEONS SCAM Ā» label in their emails.

I’m not sure I get the joke, but there’s no need to ruin it with an explanation. It would be nice to know up front that somebody is trying to con me without having to figure it out myself, but I should get in the practice because it’ll only get worse for me as I get older.

I remember Bloodstained. Good times. Though I’m tempted to do another Dark Souls run.

I blogged about rescuing some stray kittens and their Mommy in my neighborhood. I only managed to get two pictures, but both of them are pretty cute:

so glad you could catch them all! We had a feral cat colony by my last house and a network of neighbors working to catch them all for TNR and it isn’t easy!

blasting back to the past…

oh, i’m so glad you got them trapped! they look very cute.

I know intellectually that getting them off the street is the best thing for everyone, but it’s difficult not to feel like a villain when doing it.

i feel that - my neighborhood has a lot of feral cats and i’ve helped tnr a few of them. (one of them was friendly & adoptable though! he got snapped up in like a day!) it feels so bad to stress them out! i wish there was a way to tell them ā€œi know it’s scary but it is good for youā€ or at least ā€œsorryā€ so they could understand.

This is a brief reflection on how we think about writing online, and what it allows us to do that traditional print media does not.

Have you seen things about digital gardens before? This was a great introduction when I first started looking into non-temporal/non-blog websites:

Well, putting the latest entry on top make sense, because that’s what people see first, be they regulars or first-time visitors. And a chronological section makes sense because some writing is inherently tied to a moment in time. But blogs tend to bury old writing under an avalanche of new verbiage, as I wrote elsewhere some years ago. Besides, some text is atemporal by nature, so you want parts of your site to have a more deliberate structure too. Links, of course, are useful either way. They’re what makes the web special.

So yeah, it’s totally worth thinking about this stuff and doing things intentionally. I mean, even forums turned out to need wiki-style topics, just as wikis turned out to need discussion pages. Can’t have just one way of presenting information.

A post about Hollow Knight: Silksong and how difficult it is, which I am sure no one has ever made before /s

There’s fundamental difficulty, and then there’s accidental difficulty, and it’s easy to mistake the latter for the former. Not to mention people often want to enjoy something without having to pass a challenge first. Without having to earn their moment of relaxation.

i dont really like this idea that ā€œwell, [thing] is MEANT to be difficult!ā€ because even though you can never include everyone when making a game you can still try to add accessibility features (especially in a single player game where those features affect yourself only). the truth is that a lot of devs dont even think about accessibility at all and theres a big sense of pretentiousness in the fan community of ā€œdifficultā€ games about well, being good at the difficult game. and then the burden of adding accessibility features falls onto the hands of modders…

i remember as a kid when super mario 3d world (the Wii u game) came out and peach’s ability to float for a short amount of time FINALLY allowed me to play beyond the 1st level of a mario game. idk if it was really intended as an accessibility feature or just as a fun gimmick, but it was a huge thing for me! and i dont even have that big of a problem with games.

To clarify - I agree that devs should still try and accommodate for accessibility features if possible, that’s why I commented that asking for something like button remapping was an entirely valid request. My point was moreso that, unless you allow to control over nearly every mechanic that may pose a challenge, you’re necessarily going to exclude some people from your playerbase.

Street Fighter added accessibility features allowing for people with visual disabilities, like BlindWarriorSven, to play the game at high levels, but the fundamental structure of the title makes it much harder for people with issues with reaction time, yknow?
