this was yesterday but I figured out how to hide flashing stamps until clicked using the details html tag. now i need to figure out dark mode ^^;
I started adding UA of bots and crawlers to my nginx blocking rule. Decided to start serving a 418 just because why not. I’m gonna add over time based on what I see in my logs. Keeping up with this stuff is exhausting.
Missed the opportunity to serve Error 420: blaze it
sweet moves! great idea for a page.
I should probably start serving ZIP bombs to those stupid bots
Switched up my /now page to include the most recent monthly recap post. I think this captures the spirit of the now page in my situation perfectly.
In a similar vein, I created a Defaults page that updates with the most recent default apps page that I indent to update annually.
Adjusted the colour scheme slightly to increase the contrast in both light and dark modes.
I use 418 too… my living room server is set up so that any requests that don’t include a Host header go to a default virtualhost that returns nothing but 418.
I read about this but it’s a bit too extreme. I saw someone else mentioning something super clever the other day though.
A link hidden in the source that’s obviously only accessed by bots scraping the page. If something hits that link, you then add that IP to a blacklist.
I think that’s clever. If things keep degenerating I’ll start printing posts and i’ll send them via pidgeon carrier to subscribers.
I absolutely love that idea (the hidden link, not the pigeons). The simplicity of it is brilliant. Stealing for later.
thank you! I appreciate that!
Added a To Do List to http://skateclips.concretelunch.info today, and updated the change log.
Feeling so inspired by the variety of blogs and personal sites I’m seeing here! Eventually I’ll have mine looking more unique.
my blog is now hosted on https://omg.lol using the weblog.lol service they provide. you can find it here https://blog.emmas.place
baxter’s homepage has been moved to https://baxter.emmas.place
baxter’s retro photo gallery has been moved to https://retro-baxter.emmas.place
both of these were done because i just have too many domain names. i realized i wouldn’t be all that worries if these became subdomains rather than having their own domain. i was able to cut the domains i’ll be renewing this year from 9 down to 4 because of this.
https://emmas.place is now hosted at nearly free speech. quite simply i like how they spell out so honestly where they stand on certain things and i appreciate that it isn’t hidden behind legal language. i can appreciate that.
i also just wasn’t using enough of what hostinger provided to justify the cost of renewing yearly. looking at the activity for most of my sites i think the pay as you go model of nearly free speech will be fine for me, and probably save me some money in the long run
I finally managed to create a proper table and dedicated page for my list of blog platforms
@manuelmoreale Love this! Quick question, what does it mean when some of the platforms have a “FREE” minimum price, but are marked with
in the “Has a free tier?” column?
(Eg. WriteFreely, Substack, Wordpress.org.)
That those are just free platforms and don’t have a paid plan at all. So technically they do have a free tier it’s just that free is the only tier.
But maybe I should flag those differently.
Ahh, got it. Yeah, I was a bit confused, but your explanation makes sense. Thank you!
I removed every link to my now-deleted Bluesky account, and updated one of my manifestos.
I just pushed an update, can you let me know if you think it’s a bit more clear now?
