Im a software developer who is really tired of the modern web and social media. I was born too late for the early āwild westā era of the internet so I always felt a bit nostalgic for an internet I never really got to experience.
Today I was recommended a video on youtube about the āPersonal Webā and they mentioned this site.
Anyways, today I made myself a website and deployed it with gitlab pages. Iām still reading more about 32bit cafe and other sites like it, but Iām just really happy a place like this exists.
I took an hour this afternoon to code a resources page in support of Palestine and its people, since I had been linking to the one that Rosemary had set up last year on my about page. I wanted to build something of my own. Itās responsive and should be at least 80% accessible, and all the links are vetted collectives and organizations as of typing. I intend to add more to it over time.
I rearranged my homepage again. It looks more concise nowā¦ but Iām not sure if I like it better than the previous one. Maybe I should make some new manatee graphics for it.
Lots. Updated multiple of my collections pages, my plant page, my pet page, my Ask Me Anything page is finally caught up, Teeny Towers is caught up to my knowledge, weeded my Web Garden and planted a new pot, likewise cleaned up some of my link page, updated the credits page.
I updated one of the shell scripts I use to build my pages so that if I want to, for a particular post, I can specify a social media preview image instead of using a default image.
For example, I recently did a post about a band I had recently discovered where I wanted to provide the cover of their latest album as a preview image.
I enabled clean URLs on my Chyrp Lite instance at https://blog.hypertext.city This cleans up the URLs a little bit and formats them in a way that is a bit nicer as it uses the date posted and title rather than the actions being used to lookup the post. It just looks less techie which I think is nice for what I will be using this blog for
Over the past couple of weeks, I bit the bullet and revamped my entire site with a new theme (actually a layout I yoinked from ribo.zone but I have plans to give it its own unique look) and a bunch of new pages
At least the site is responsive but I have a lot of work to do when it comes to its current appearance LMAO
I made some adjustments on my site a few days ago and finally revived my RSS feed! I also added a few 88x31 buttons for the first time and updated my little āabout meā section.
I donāt like my siteās theming so Iāve been playing with CSS and different layouts this evening, but I canāt find anything I like. The colour palette Iām using is gross, me of two years ago had awful taste.
Also did some small housekeeping, made a content warning banner, futzed with mobile friendliness, meat and potatoes stuff.
Oh this is a really cute idea! A little home for everything that doesnāt fit in elsewhere.
Yeah! I figured it would be a nice way not only to display disparate pages, but also remove some limitations on what I can add to my website, since on its face itās more of a gallery/blog. It takes the edge off.
