Looking forward to the rest of the arcade entries! My mom loved pinball and Centipede so one of the things we did for fun was hit the arcades when I was growing up. This would have been in the early 80s. Sometimes it was Aladdin’s Castle, which was in the local mall, sometimes it was an arcade tucked away in a shopping strip. Man, I miss those days!
This is a great post, I really enjoyed reading it. I need to get more familiar with Linux, Im so very tired of windows. (thats one of the reasons I got this chromebook!) I need to figure out how to follow your blog (5 decades, just an arcader, im learning)
Thank you, I have a ton in the tank, didnt want to create a wall of tl:dr hehe.
Arcades, proper arcades were the very best, all pretty much gone now, even Japan is slowly fading
You ever been to Galloping Ghost? It really feels like one never-ending arcade. Only difference being, all the games are free; you pay $25 up-front for the day, and there’s no guarantee that every single game works.
I’m over in the UK and we have a few of them here too, they really are great but I’m not a fan of pay once then free. The point was to make that 10p (or 25c) go as far as you could! (Gauntlet is the exception, how we fell for that one!)
Part two of my arcade blog is up. I think I’m going to have to learn how to separate the entries as right now it’s all in one page

I love the discussion about arcades going on here. I really missed out on the heyday of arcade gaming, sadly, but I remember liking them as a kid.
@Nyx now I really want to know what was on the punk guy’s mixtapes!
