I never got into VOCALOID material, but the headings at Leveretstar are stylish.
The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Links this week include a forty year old mystery of strange and cryptic ads that have been placed every year in a university newspaper, the deciphering of the last of the codes on the CIA Kryptos monument and someoneās list of 52 things they learned this year, which is full of wonderful factoids. Plus, as usual, I listened to, read and watched things.
My latest blog post was about a MOPy: A small fish in a screensaver that ate a lot of resources in the late 90ās
Iāve been slowly working on Starship Librarians, a really great anthology of space librarian stories.
As a librarian I will be looking into this.
Clips from Sundayā¦
Same clips in slo-mo
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me! I still need to figure out a good palette for light mode haha.
I loved your pics of the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History visit! I also like pretty rocks.
I also really like your idea of adding where your links came from. Iāve thought about doing that because my links donāt come from the aether - I find them in cool places that usually have other links. But Iām scatterbrained and itās hard enough sometimes to just remember to jot down/copy+paste the link, much less where it came from. Something Iād definitely like to work on this year!
finally finished this one
onto the next unfinished draft
A few new ones from me. One about writing more I published this morning.
My 2025 in music (including playlist)
And the obligatory App Defaults post :)
Time for a mid-week tiara post! Can I interest anyone in a Sea Dragon Tiara?

I used to have a /library page where I tracked everything I read without offering any commentary ⦠that wasnāt working for me anymore, so I decided to create a curated recommendations page instead.
I talk about all of that in the post, and also provide a quick, related little tutorial for Jekyll users who may be interested in using YAML for data entry.
life systems post inspired from @small_cypress !! weirdly hard to remember what i actually use sometimes, and what iāve dropped
I loved your āhow do I find the time to writeā subhead, especially the emphasis on breaking the frame of trying to write a finished essay and instead concentrating on incremental progress. Very true!
I have a side project that I always experience a lot of inertia with because it involves channeling a very specific voice that does not come naturally to me. I think I need to find ways to practice diving in and out of this voice more quickly so that the thought of doing a new post isnāt so daunting.
I need to stop leaving my 80% complete posts km draft and just publish them more often.
I have opinions on SciFi Mechs
I recently had to overhaul my /library page moving away from my JSON structured entries lol
Over time my āone sentence commentsā section for each book were getting longer and longer until I needed to start using paragraphs and using JSON no longer made any sense and I had to switch to an individual markdown page for each book haha
very cool! I love seeing what works for people. Now I want to try out Spirit City!
Haha, oh my! Iām trying very hard to avoid writing separate markdown files for my recommendations page⦠Iāll be forcing myself to keep each blurb to three sentences max, just to keep it simple to maintain. I do really like your library page, though; itās well-formatted, and itās nice to see your thoughts on each book.
Iāve been slowly getting more consistent with writing for my blog over the past few months.
Yesterday, I published a post on my favourite physical media I bought in 2025. Iām finally happy with how my blog is going and would love it if you checked it out. Itās separate from my Neocities website.
Idk if sharing the post here is against the rules bc it is a WordPress .com blog. If it is, please tell me and Iāll delete it :3
I should do this too, I picked up a lot of cool stuff last year! Should probably do it before we get too far into 2026..
I love this. While I canāt say the specific items you picked up are really in my wheelhouse - just a bit too old to have experienced Hannah Montana and not really listened to Miley Cyrusā - I really enjoyed reading about why you enjoy them. I see the odd Hannah Montana clip on my travels and it looks so fun. Your website also looks great and I love the overall vibe. Very cosy and comforting (like a pillow fort!).
As someone who was obsessed with dinosaurs and thought they would grow up to be a palaeontologist, I really enjoyed your The Christmas Dinosaur post. Iāve never heard of it before and itās rather timely to discover another animation, given my tentative steps towards making my own. I appreciate the warning about the slur. Itās so difficult to reconcile some of the things we grew up with, especially as we become more aware of the context and real meanings.
Iāve been circling the idea of moving more towards physical media again - particularly music - and just yesterday my wife shared that she wants to expand our DVD collection, rather than rely on streaming services, so itās really nice to see you sharing the physical media you enjoy.
As a side note, Iāve copied all my Studio Ghibli posts over to my animation blog, but the original inspiration was author Jaysen Headleyās Vault Disney series (they later went on to cover Studio Ghibli and Pixar too). You might enjoy it ![]()
( My own take on the personal web / indie web - and therefore the 32-bit cafe - is that no, it doesnāt matter what technology you use to host your website. The only prerequisite is youāre making your own space on the internet - whatever that looks like - rather than accepting the mold that multi billion dollar companies decide is acceptable. My own blogging journey started with Blogger, later Wordpress, and then years of nothing before my self-build with Hugo, Eleventy and finally Statamic. )
