Central PA, here, and I keep it at 80 too.
I feel your pain. It has been far too hot ![]()
It reached 32C/90F here yesterday. Unfortunately our houses are designed to keep the heat in. Itās unbearable from mid-afternoon onwards, even outside.
In comparison itās a cool 22C/72F this morning which my cat and I really appreciate as we have our breakfast in the garden.
I FEEL THIS IN MY HOT LITTLE SOUL!
My beef with summer is not just the heat, but also the extra light. So I canāt even move to the Arctic circle to escape the heat because the midnight sun will make me lose my mind too.
Add to that the fact that the medication Iām on to lessen my summer depression actually contributes to it by worsening my heat intolerance. ![]()
Hate. Hate. Hate. Double hate. Loathe entirely.
so she kept the AC on its heating option? in summer? we had an AC back when we had our own place, i wonāt get into details why we dont have it anymore but weād put it in that during winter
the only thing i do like about summer is the extra light. in winter thereās nothing more depressing than it going dark at 4pm
My hope/desire that more people will choose to own and operate their own website.
I loved reading this - and then several more posts on your site. Which I suppose is ironic? Anyway, the few times Iāve restricted noise by putting down my smartphone for a week or so, Iāve found the signal clearer too.
Iām catching up on everyoneās posts! I love checking this thread after the weekend.
I posted something myself:
Iām very, very intrigued by the churro-flavoured macaron! Iāve seen most* of those other macaron flavours before, but never churro.
- Iām not sure what unicorn fruity pebble is, either, but it doesnāt sound like something Iād enjoy.
Oh good, someone knows what I am talking about. ![]()
The Artistās Way is an interesting process, but sometimes I feel nuts when people ask me how things are going and Iām like āIām not reading this weekā or āI am rediscovering my sense of possibility.ā
@rina - no, it was still on the a/c option. It just wasnāt going on until the temperature in the house hit 80 degrees.
@effigies - churros arenāt even my favorite thing so I was surprised that was one of my top flavors! Are you familiar with Fruity Pebbles cereal? Thatās what the unicorn one tasted like!
I think thatās a really clever solution! Itās cool that you chose to apply some serious constraints and found a way to work through them. I think thereās something satisfying about giving yourself a hard problem and then solving it.
Itās all been said before, but I felt the need to say it all again re: heat in (north/western) Europe.
I do my MPās faithfully (ok I do write them every day but I have tweaked the format) but I had to skip the no reading thing. I did take the spirit of it to āno podcastsā for that week because it is good to just have space for your brain to float and make new connections.
I took a break from it but the book is back by the bedside table, reminding me Iām better off reading it. I spend a lot of time muttering āOk FIIIIINE Julia Iāll DO THE DANG ARTIST DATEā and itās always worth it.
Iām in the southern US, but I donāt adjust to heat. I actually developed heat intolerance after prolonged exposure to extreme heat during a summer in Florida. My medication makes it difficult for my body to regulate temperature too.
In other words, I get it.
Iāve read before that CSS is turing complete, but this is probably the first time Iāve seen it demonstrated clearly. Very interesting write up, and congrats on figuring out the problem!
Forgot to upload and share this.
Same same. I lived in FL got 15 years and my heat intolerance never improved.
@Moxie the infrastructure issue is such a big deal. Itās as hot this summer in Maryland as it was last summer where I was in Florida, but the people here are suffering so much more. Multi-story houses are hard to air condition, even in houses like mine that have recently-installed central air. It took me until this year to understand why Florida houses are nearly all one-story in most places - the heat!
Another infrastructure example here is shaded bus shelters donāt exist most places in this city because intense rain events and heat werenāt really a problem. I am currently without a car and itās unsafe for me to use the buses due to the exposure to 97*F heat.
I had linked the blog post that inspired this post on the forum a few days ago. This is me thinking more about that post and sitting with my feelings about being autistic in a world that doesnāt accommodate difference.
Thanks for sharing, very powerful wordsš
