i appreciate your correcting me for specificity! it is also not true that bread contains ā€œalmost no nutritional valueā€!

this is also not true!

this is, additionally, not true!

~

it seems that not eating bread is important to you! if that’s the right choice for you, i’m glad that you are taking care of your own health! that’s wonderful. i appreciate that you want other people to also take care of their own health.

i think that it is goofy to declare one of the staple foods in countless culture’s diets for over 5000 years to be essentially poison (there are a whole lot of worse things to put in your body than bread or cookies, actually! for example, cyanide or lead paint or a really sharp stick.) and additionally goofy to declare it contains ā€œalmost no nutritional valueā€, because that is not true and it is not helpful.
i additionally do not think it is helpful or kind to make broad assumptions about or comment on other people’s eating habits or their health based on their blog posts or what you assume about their geographic location!

as you say, different bodies need different things! it is also true that some foods are healthier and some foods are less healthy, but i don’t personally think it’s valuable or meaningful to label any foods as either ā€œhealthyā€ or ā€œunhealthyā€.

perhaps we are coming at this from very different social contexts! to contextualize: i am in communities with disproportionately high rates of disordered eating and food insecurity, and it is important for me and for the people i am in community with to emphasize that eating food is good and that it is better to eat food than to not eat food. it is also important to move away from thought processes that sort foods into ā€œacceptable/safeā€ and ā€œunacceptable/not safe.ā€ i do not personally know anyone who has benefitted in any way from being told that foods they enjoy are unhealthy, but i do know a lot of people who have been harmed by that!

calorie-counting and restrictive diets, for example, are common triggers for people with histories of eating disorders! it’s very important to me that people be reminded that a calorie is a value-neutral unit of energy which you absolutely require in order to live and that a food being high in calories does not mean you should avoid it.

an important element of a healthy diet which is frequently overlooked, especially in the context of weight loss apps, is a healthy relationship with food and with one’s body!

Perhaps you are right, we are simply coming from different perspectives on the topic.

I am from a family with a background in medicine, I am very focused on the scientific and evidence-based rather than the cultural and ideological side of things, and I actually do have clinical eating disorders – a food addiction caused by ADHD and obesity – that I am currently overcoming with a plan set up by a qualified nutritionist. :) After all, obesity and its comorbidities are the number one cause of death in the Western world.

This is not the place to discuss this at length either I feel – after all, this is just the blog roll and not a nutrition thread. If that’s okay with you, I’d end it here and leave the stage for people to post their blog posts.

literally tho. in my country its lowkey considered you didn’t eat your meal properly if you didn’t have bread on the side! (be it white bread or rye) bread is THAT important in serbia. you really only don’t have bread if your dish is made of dough think pasta or pastries, or with soups (but some people also eat bread with a soup!)

That said, cultural standards, traditions and superstitions – no matter how important to the people in question – cannot replace the evidence-based scientific method and can be harmful in some instances, especially concerning things as important as health.

Just because sayings are oft-repeated by traditionalists it does not mean they’re necessary correct or healthy – after all, many traditional sayings still consider beating your kids a good method to instill discipline, left-handedness a sin, or red meat a healthy meal.

I think we’ve exhausted the nutrition discussion. It’s a complex topic and good nutrition for one person will look different than it does for another.

THANK YOU! i didn’t think me making a post like ā€˜hey i think this app is bad’ would even lead to such a discourse lol.

A quick post about going to see one of my favorite bands here in Dallas last night, Gang of Four.

One of the many things I love and adore about my wife is that she loves all this stuff at least as much as I do and knows more about it than me. That she survived breast cancer from 4 years ago and is still here to do these things with me make everything else in the world, even the horrible things, seem inconsequential. I know that is shallow in some ways, but it’s true. Sharing these shows with her means everything to me.

Here is the follow-up to my post about making paper beads, where I’ve finished my charms and made a bracelet and necklace! Those weren’t the only charms I made, either, but I’m going to put the others into a separate post, because I feel like this one is already too image-heavy

Congratulations! I’m glad you had such a positive experience learning about programming. It’s insane to fail a project for an unused header file in an otherwise working program, that seems a bit extreme over just losing a few points :grimacing:

The Weekly Wrap Up has been posted! Links this week are about a historical body part debate, a colossal squid sighting and Comic Sans, the font, had babies! I listened to, read and watched things and had a week full of aggravations.

OMG I’m so sorry for the very late reply: I’ve been distracted the past few days tinkering on my personal blog/website again.

To answer your question, what eladnarra said above is correct. There’s no central website where you sign up or announce your intent to join; instead, the IndieWeb wiki page about the IndieWeb Carnival lists the current monthly host and theme, as well as past and future ones. You may visit the linked page for each theme to find out more about it, as well as how to submit your blog post response to its respective host.

I hope that helps!

I actually blogged today! My latest post is at What to do? – This Is My Day
