I was wondering if youā€™d mention Cohostā€¦ Whichā€¦ Yeah. Itā€™s a shame things have been managed so badly, although I did already kinda check out after some accessibility discourse.

I noped out when I learned they were going to allow certain kinds of adult material thatā€™s legal in one particular country but not necessarily everywhere else.

So I finally took the plunge and wrote that first blog post Iā€™ve been to get around to for a few weeks now. Itā€™s a post mortem (in a sense, I donā€™t really know all the correct terminology yet) on a game I made last month: Making + publishing my first game.

I tend to write in my notes app of ease of use, and default to lapslock for anything that isnā€™t an email or schoolwork, hence the lack of ā€œproperā€ capitalization. But hey: itā€™s authentically me, and this is a blog post not an essay.

I am endlessly fascinated by the different careers people on the personal web have. Not everyone is a university student ignoring assignments to work on their websiteā€”like youā€™re literally going to be a doctor! Some people are professional artists, IT professionals, authors. Wow.

If youā€™re thinking of me, Iā€™m sure there are other techies who have also been authors. Charles Stross comes to mind as an example. Also, Carol Berg. Then thereā€™s Catherine Asaro, whoā€™s a scientist, a dancer, and an author (as well as a government advisor). Compared to them, Iā€™m a minor league player at best.

My latest post is all about my love for taking notes in Obsidian and why the app is perfect for my Autistic + ADHD brain!

Obsidian looks AWESOME! Iā€™ve been handwriting mind maps on Microsoft OneNote (endless pages ftw) for ages now, so to see an option that I can type out things and have things connect like a constellation? Exciting!!

I made a blog post out of exhaustion of seeing Squarespace being advertised as a drag-and-drop site maker for Personal websites on youtube videos. No hate to professional portfolios and business sites, but donā€™t think the people behind the service understand what personal sites are supposed to be like or about.

No You Donā€™t Need Squarespace To Create A Personal Site

I ended up posting this as a comment on your post:

I agree, and back in 2012 or so I had tried running my personal website on Squarespace. It was expensive, and limiting, and when I decided I wanted to migrate to a different platform I had to manually convert everything because Squarespace provided no export tools.

Obsidian can be a bit overwhelming to use at first so feel free to ask me if you have any questions about it! Maybe my next post should be about how to get started with Obsidian lol.

Ohh I replied to it in my blog comments, but in case you cant see it here it is

Yikes, that sounded like a pain to deal with. Genuinely didnā€™t think about how hard it would be to export everything especially since you didnā€™t program it directly. Imagine what would happen if all those websites become lost forever after Squarespace stops keeping their service up.

I mentioned working on this post a while back. Couldnā€™t tie it together in a way that made me happy with it, but I decided to publish it anyway. Itā€™s an ode to a friend.

This came up in my feed reader the other day and loved reading it! One of my favourite posts to read in a good while! Sent me down a rabbit hole reading a whole bunch of your other posts.

ā€œa little dust in my throatā€ made me actually laugh out loudā€”Iā€™ve been there!

The hard thing about hard things was also excellent. Easy to relate to and very inspiring. Youā€™ve got a new avid reader!

Iā€™d love to read that, yes pls!

as a ā€œsocialā€ smoker now, this is something iā€™m so glad you were able to capture. itā€™s hard to explain how someone could want to only smoke at a bar and with friends (or strangers!), but this perfectly encapsulated why itā€™s possible. (however, i smoked daily for 10+ years before quitting and rediscovering balance years later.)

i have met so many amazing people just from going outside to smoke! itā€™s incredible, the way people connect over this vice. great post

Thank you! Thatā€™s up there with the most rewarding compliments Iā€™ve gotten since I rebooted my blog. It means a lot.

Youā€™re already in my feed reader. How goes the relocating and job search? I canā€™t imagine youā€™ll have any problems finding new employment, with all those awesome projects on your resume. Your personal site is really polished ā€” in the most positive sense of the word ā€” and comes across as the ā€œhomeā€ of someone whoā€™s going to mind the details. Itā€™s inspiring.

@xandra Itā€™s still strange to me how seldom this comes up. Every time Iā€™ve commented on how going out for a smoke is like joining a secret community where everyone is open and friendly towards each other, people nod and agree. Iā€™m glad to hear you liked the post  Your list has a lot of stuff on it Iā€™d like to do before turning 40, too. Iā€™m looking forward to draw inspiration from you crossing stuff off the list!
