Glad the little one is settling in, but no pics?

Aww, poor thing! It does sound like he really wants a home, and has just figured out that you’re a safe person. I hope everything works out in the long term, and I’d love to see pics if you end up getting any!

I love this title >_< Agree with above, sounds like bro is settling in really well!

I also like your (new?) favicon. Reminds me of the raspberry pi logo which I happen to have open in another tab

I had a major screen time setback yesterday and squandered almost the entire day on Reddit… A quick blog post about how I plan to deal with this particular issue going forward.

The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Links this week include a story about carnivorous squirrels, the possibility of the whole internet collapsing and an introduction to the Mystery Flesh Pit National Park. I met up with friends to play a board game, met up with a different friend to check out some Ghanaian food and went by myself to a pop-up classic video game arcade. Plus, as usual, I listened to, read and watched things.

The book about Marie Antoinette and fashion sounds interesting! I’m intrigued by the Mystery Flesh Pit National park… I love this kind of thing.

yes, YESSSS more people into mystery flesh pit national park I LOVE IT!!! i also recommend Happy Meat Farms though it’s a bit more explicit in its ā€˜horror’ and it’s an ARG as well with a site and youtube channel too

Did anyone here play The Longing? I see that it has very good steam reviews, but it’s not really clicking with me so far.

I love that there’s a dermatologist/arcade combination. My late father-in-law was a country family practice doctor, and always imagined a clinic/bait shop combination (because it might actually get people in for primary care!)

I feel this in my bones. I had the old alcohol problem, and it’s kind of the same - the danger is when you’re mentally worn out and willpower is all used up (it’s a finite resource). Also the carousel of doing well, being proud of myself, then crashing out and feeling physically ill from a dumb internet binge… it sucks.

I do get some value from a couple subreddits but I’ve made that a computer thing, not a phone thing, with a lot of blocking software because my willpower runs out after teaching kids all day. In the low-effort world - cross-stitch is really easy and helpful when I want to chill with brain off, and I often pair it with videos from folkstreams which are mostly older documentaries with no jumpscares or ads or over-sensationalism. Sometimes I play Simon’s puzzles while I watch them, too. I’m trying to get more into reading graphic novels from the library, but sometimes just flipping through pages is too much when my brain is proper cooked.

Thank you for sharing what works for you! Cross-stitch would definitely be up my alley, and it’s something I’ve thought about trying in the past. I think anything where I can just engage my hands in a seated activity and mostly switch off my brain while listening to background music will work when I’m mentally/physically tapped out.

What blocking software are you using? I’ve been using LeechBlock for Reddit on my computer, but it has felt a little pointless thus far, as it’s so easy to override… I waste less time on Reddit when I’m on my computer than I do when the app is on my phone, but it’s still occasionally a problem for me if I get stuck in a lengthy back and forth with someone. I need something that I can’t override, or something that will force me to enter a password before I can override it. I find it so infuriating that certain social media platforms have such a grip on me, to the point where all of this stuff is necessary… Reddit isn’t even all that great.

if it helps for mobile, i use screenzen :] it has some good parameters for limiting access such as being forced to wait a certain amount of minutes to access the settings page in the first place (which is where you can bypass stuff, i’ve found even putting 5 minute waiting timers on stuff annoys me enough to go do other things)

I caved and bought cold turkey for my mac and it was awesome. It just doesn’t have Linux compatibility so I’m back to Leechblock :frowning:

it is tactile in the way a lenovo thinkpad keyboard is. i think that’s what it reminds me of most. so i’m quite happy with it. given they are chiclet keys i’m guessing scissor switches, which are usually something i’m always a fan of more or less when they are tactile

I enjoyed reading about the podcast highlights. I can’t believe North Dakota has such a progressive law regarding pharmacy ownership. I think it’s awesome, but not the state I would expect something like that from!
