With 10 days left in August, I managed to write one more blog post, this time about comparing static site generators. Spoiler: wish they werenât so obstinately âfor programmersâ. But Iâm not writing them off either. After all I am a programmer, and recently converted that same site to a SSG.

This is why I wrote my own, if what I have counts as a static site generator. I have relative paths, and make doesnât care what sort of directory structure I have under src/.

Weeknote time. 
This past week, I jammed on guitar with other people for the first time in twenty years (holy crap, time fliesâŚ), spent a little more time training my elderly cat on his leash and harness, and enjoyed various entertainment titles. My favourite entertainment title of the week would have to be the game Carrion, which was easily the best $2.98 Iâve ever spent!

So it has been kindly brought to my attention that one of the Punk Rock links I have in the post above is mostly likely a product of LLM use. I feel kind of stupid for not noticing that, but Iâm not in the habit of checking the code behind pages of bloggers I follow. And honestly, I am not really hip to what LLM coding looks like, having never used one or even really investigated it.
I do, however, agree that having your own site is at this point fairly counter cultural behavior.

Yeah, something seemed off given that itâs way too sanitized for a thing that claims to be âpunkâ. The visual language alone is neat and safe, and seems based more on following an aesthetic checklist curated from marketing survey than something that broadcasts âactual free expressionâ.
I think the person who told the LLM to create that page and then posted it is 1)not really clued-in to punk, but 2)liked what he read elsewhere and felt enthusiasm, and 3)took the lazy way to create a page to support the idea. Again, donât really disagree with most of the sentiment, but the execution runs counter to the message.
I would agree with the non-cynical theory if this campaign wasnât selling a literal t-shirt ($30!?!) and sticker at the bottom. Donât get me wrong: Iâm all for merch, especially t-shirts. However, the design is about as generic and paint-by-numbers as the site. The sentiment is nice, itâs the execution that lacks any kind of effort or flavor.
The person behind it has a blog that goes back 20 years, so I donât think this is someone with misplaced enthusiasm. I actually think this has the potential to heavily dilute the concept its trying to champion, which is infuriating.

I donât disagree with you. I mean, I have a blog that goes back 20 years and I donât have tshirts. Honestly, as soon as you are selling something, the credibility goes to zero. It becomes content marketing.
Partially disagree. For me, it comes down to whatâs being sold and for how much.

If you enjoy the show, definitely read the books! Theyâre great fun, and it helps so much to have Gary Oldman in your mind when youâre reading passages involving Jackson Lamb. He absolutely inhabits that role, and I canât imagine anyone else in his place.
Iâm also impressed with my cat! Heâs doing much better with the leash than I ever thought he would. He has also finally stopped trying to kill it⌠

The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Links this week include a map of all the deaths that have occurred in the Grand Canyon, a source for audio-only files of TV shows and movies and a prototype for a game where you walk through an ASCII city. Iâve got some info regarding a cool upcoming science talk and a flash sale for a cross stitch site thatâs selling their whole catalog for extremely cheap. Plus, as usual, I listened to, read and watched things.

The indieweb can be punk without writing about punk, but in this case I double dipped with a retrospective of one of my 20 all time favorite albums.
My writeup includes YouTube links to a few of my favorites tracks, which average about two minutes in length. If youâve never heard this band and have any interest in skate punk or melodic hardcore, my biased recommendation is that this might be worth your time.

Alas, I am impossible to control so your âDeletionâ post provoked me only to dig up the original post through my RSS feed so I could see this problematic T-shirt site.
What struck me about the T-shirt thing isnât the commercial aspect (for better or worse I donât really share the punk ethos so it doesnât grate at me), but the text in the header beginning âYou donât need a deal with a label.â That segment feels ripped straight from your site!! Just laundered through an LLM to sound more annoying! Very annoying of them.
