It’s so cool and inspiring being able to see part of the screenprinting process! I really like your designs.

Gorgeous photos! I live in a part of Canada that doesn’t really get spring weather, so seeing all those flowers makes my heart ache a little. I’ve seen nothing but snow, rain, and bare trees for the last five months. Hurry up, May/June…

Today, I was in the process of moving around some old archived data of mine, and discovered some ā€œwpostā€ files. Those are from Windows Live Writer, a now-extinct blog authoring tool. I wrote a blog post about how I went about turning those opaque proprietary files into restored blog posts on my site.

I don’t have much to add on the particular topic of your post but I love your website so much - its styling and organization. Sending iron arachne to my spouse who is working on a similar-ish project, they will love it :)

Thanks so much! I’m always tweaking my site’s design, content, and organization… it’s one of my ā€œforever projects.ā€ I hope your spouse enjoys Iron Arachne!

It’s time for some midweek tiara madness. This week: The Hot Dog Stand Tiara.

Yes, Hot Dog Stand as in the Windows 3.1 color scheme!

$787 for a historical tiara sounds a bit cheap, even given the year. Perhaps a costume tiara?

As for Hot Dog Stand… I keep forgetting that existed, and then every few years, someone pops up with a reminder and I have to stare at a screenshot of its garish splendour for a few minutes.

I miss the random creativity of the early days of computing.

Record Store Day is coming this weekend. I blogged about why record shops should sell digital music We need a physical digital music experience - Olly

I read this just before you posted it here, actually, and I think you have some interesting thoughts. Bandcamp artists are in a perfect position to start such a trend, I think, because you can sell just about any type of merch there, and including a download link along with it seems to be pretty trivial (I haven’t done it myself, so I can’t speak for that).

It would be neat to partner with artists and make, for instance, trading cards for each album, or maybe a little booklet about how the album was conceived and written. There are a good number of electronic artists who put their music on floppy disks, and I think it’s awesome. There’s a lot of room for creativity!

I like the idea of digital download codes coming with a physical postcard of the album. Complete with a book or sleeve of lyrics. And maybe a small gift like a sticker.

Thank you!! I feel like knowing the process really helps deciding how complicated/easy to make a design. Also I’ve found that I design differently for a garment vs a sticker, haha.

I finally got around to writing something after MONTHS of not being in a good mental space. I’ve been deep-diving on returning to owning / hosting my own music and found an old friend: scrobbles.

I hope your retinas have recovered from experiencing Hot Dog Stand again!

Yes, $787 seems cheap for a ā€œrealā€ tiara but kind of expensive for a potential theatrical one although maybe it wouldn’t seem expensive if I actually liked it. I really do think it must’ve been a costume/prop tiara.

And I still can’t believe that the blog I pulled it from had pages and pages of the most beautiful hair combs and tiaras yet this one is the one she thought was the most gorgeous. The mind boggles.

What a cool trip you had! I am familiar with the concept of Warhammer but I’m not into it. But those photos of all the miniatures are just amazing! I would totally go see something like that if it was in my area.

One of the most interesting things about humanity is that we come with more random, crazy, and yet internally-consistent things than any other phenomenon in the known universe. I applaud random Hot Dog Stand tiara person, if for no other reason than they’re just really unique!

I love this! I read it this morning elsewhere. Once when I was letterpress printing for hire, I printed a small art print for a musician with a digital download code on the back. 12x12ā€/record-size art prints with digital download codes would be cool to frame and a nod to older tech, too
