Questioning whether I should probably avoid writing in metaphor in the future, but I felt like I needed to remind myself that Iâm doing pretty damn well, despite ~everything~.
Thatâs sad about the web graphics⌠though Iâm extra horrified by Lycos billing people for a non-existent service that they canât even access in order to cancel. I feel sorry for their users and how much they might have lost without previous warning. What a terrible move.
I hope you enjoy The Feather Thief! I found it really fascinating in terms of insight into a whole hobby/subculture I had no idea existed but SO infuriating at the same time.
I was immediately put in a bad mood by the first thing on this list this morning, soâŚ
I agree with the general sentiment behind this. Youâre not getting paid to educate people. Absolutely. But if youâre going to make a claim, you have to be prepared to back it up. If someone asks you to elaborate because they donât quite understand the point youâre making, elaborate! If someone asks for sources, give them the fucking sources. Donât want to be asked for sources? Provide them upfront. Youâre being just as lazy as they are by not giving them what theyâve asked you for.
This is one of my gripes with BlueSky. I know people act in bad faith when asking for sources (asking people to do a lot of labor theyâre going to ignore) but assuming everyone is asking in bad faith is so frustrating.
I still remember a conversation almost 8 years ago on Facebook when I was posting about net neutrality. Someone I went to high school said âthereâs good reasons to be against itâ but it wasnât his job to educate me. I spent like three days truly trying to understand a good-faith argument (not by a telecom corp) to be against it with no luck. Itâs frustrating as someone genuinely try to understand a different perspective.
And I hate that you have to get a permit for an airconditioner - thatâs absurd in a warming world.
This article got selected as a Staff pick on Medium, so I thought Iâd share it!
Right. The genuinely curious amongst us shouldnât have to suffer because some people are buttholes on the internet!
You donât need a permit for units that arenât visible from the street, thankfully, which is probably how theyâre getting away with people not fighting against needing a permit for the visible ones. If you can get at least one unit, youâre still getting aircon so theyâre not necessarily doing anything wrong. ![]()
ah ok - just hate that itâs making your life harder!
wow thats so lucky i wish i could get that
Really enjoyed that article about the tortoise. Honestly, the mind-blowing part to me isnât that she visited the exhibit, but the fact that itâs been a family enterprise for three generations! I canât imagine inheriting a tortoise, but it must feel special.
Itâs Wednesday so you know what that means - itâs tiara time! This week Iâm bringing you the Byzantine Princess Diadem.
Did a full refresh of the /now page. Itâs⌠a lot less cynical than last monthâs refresh.
Thank you for pointing that out! I appreciate the implication that the tortoise would witness major life events of multiple generations. Imagine knowing that the animal in front of you was around when your grandparents got married or something similar. Itâs got to put things in a whole special perspective!
I think about this a lot with Snooty the manatee, who lived from 1948 to 2017. Swimming placidly in his pool and munching lettuce as the world changed around him.
I realize this post is a few weeks old now but I hope you are feeling better. Idk for how long you have been mired in these kind of feelings, but it occured to me that sometimes mental health is like physical healthâyou are doing fine and then one day you get âsickâ (virus or whatever), and most of the time you can just recover on your own, but in the mental health case, the lack of physical symptoms makes it hard to get an objective view.
in my late twenties, yet i havenât experienced my life at all.
I would be interested in hearing a bit more about what this means⌠is it that you havenât had meaningful experiences or that you donât remember the things you have experienced or something else? Itâs an interesting statement to me because, by definition, the one thing that everybody experiences is âmy lifeâ even if all the details differ.
The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Links this week include the lost English pronouns for a group of two, the reason why so many control rooms were seafoam green and a look at domain name history. Did you know I have a Tumblr? I repost cool images and invite you to take a look, if you are so inclined. I went on a day trip and share some photos. Link Lagniappe might be here to stay. Plus, as usual, I listened to, read and watched things.
New blog post about how I spent the Qingming Festival days in 2026:
Iâve been a little IRL busy as work/social events picked up a lot now that we are in springâŚ
I work at a screenprint shop and recently have been seeing more and more people submit genAI designs to print (ugh) so to combat those annoyances I recapped some of my own screenprinted designs that my coworkers printed for me <3 (also I did not realize that this post got some traction)
Last weekend I went to a Stationery Mart (Saturday) and Zine Fest (Sunday) - I like making recap posts to highlight the artists/creators. Since I also vend at markets sometimes I also like saying hi and buying things from my own fellow artist friends.
More progress on making my life more IRL-centered and fun
