Active Forums on the Web

This is a community curated list of active forums on the internet.

It is linked to the Forum Revival Movement which has been discussed here @ The32bitCafé.

You can join our guild to show your love & support for forums and the forum culture in general. If you like, you might be as well able to join the core team and engage within the movement even more.

Do you speak english and another language on top? That’s great. You should help us to curate the list of forums for your country / region. If you are interested, send me a PM here on this forum or at our guilds place.

Let’s fight for an enjoyable internet culture!

This community-curated list is inspired by @xandra & @yequari’s great Resources List (thanks for bringing up the idea @juette)

I’m not sure how I could enable the ability for other forum members to edit this post. Maybe this has to be done by someone else.

I truly hope this will have an impact on the great culture of web forums that needs to be revitalized. Forums help people connect and share knowledge - That’s what everyone of us should do IMHO.

Your help is appreciated

Below are entries that have been added but have no (proper) description yet or have to be categorized. You can edit the OP yourself and help making this list better.

In need of a description

:united_kingdom:/:united_states: The Miniatures Page (does not work over HTTPS)

To be discussed:

Should we add forums like the one @enesemp has mentioned? Do you think it is to fresh to be listed as an “active” forum?

I would love to hear your thoughts on this!

You can edit my 1st post to add a forum to this list. This is a community wiki now - thanks to @xandra

I don’t mind adding your recommendation manually if you like to post it as a regular reply. This way, the thread gets recommended to more users, which I think is a good thing.

You can actually do both, edit and post a reply. I would also encourage you to share your opinions about one or more forums in this list, as this would be another good way to keep this thread active.

please don’t forget to add a proper description for the forum you recommend. It can be quite hard to understand what a forum is all about and what makes it unique as an outsider.

Thanks for your support.

This is a great initiative, and I’ve been looking for more forums. I’ve found Cheapskates’ Guide helpful for me. I’ve made accounts on Basement Community and Chronicles.

These are great additions! It would be helpful if you all add them to the OP, which has been turned into a wiki post.

Since many here enjoy forums, I thought this would be a great place to introduce mine for the first time. I have been working on it since months, on and off, and I finally feel ready to share it for atleast testing purposes (Im still working on it). While it is not a professional-level forum, it is a heartfelt personal project of mine. At the very least, it is functional I hope.

(go to the forum tab to visit the forum) https://emptylobby.neocities.org/ . Feel free to leave a comment there and to check it out.

Thank you for all your contributions to the list :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:!

I updated the OP manually.

We still have to decide what we are going to consider as an active forum.

My suggestion:

Very active - new posts are being made daily
Active - new posts are being made on a regular base, at least weekly
Semi active - there are new posts from time to time (weekly to monthly)
Low activity - New posts occur only every few months

What is your opinion on displaying the activity level of a forum in general?

I can imagine that people won’t click on links to forums that are marked as semi active. On the other hand, when people click on the link without knowing about the activity level of that particular forum, they may find out about it on the forum site and leave in disappointment.

The whole point of the Forum Revival Movement is to encourage users to get active in forums and even revive the ones, that don’t have an active user base anymore.

idk if its a good idea cause it means having to check the whole list every so often to be sure that activity levels are still accurate which adds a lot of effort

hmm, if the forum has an rss feed you could display the most recent post date pretty easily. But idk how many forums offer that.

I’ve updated the project page. Still have some forums to add but the list is getting bigger :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for your recent edit @juette and @everybody else participating as well ofc

You can join the :people_hugging:Forum Revival Guild :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: on the Melonland Forum. We use this as the temporary channel to coordinate actions and stay in touch. @xandra Is anything like that possible here on the 32bit Café as well? Like a separate area or the possibility to stay in contact as a group?

@varve , thanks for the hint. Many forums offer a rss feed. I still have to think about the implementation. A short info with the date of the latest post wouldn’t hurt I guess. Do you think this is a good idea?
