It feels great to know that we live in a world of giants that can suddenly squish you at any time, either incidentally or purposefully.
I understand that switching to Graphene OS isn’t viable for the vast majority of people, but Google’s current posture on squeezing every piece of power out of independent developers like this might just be the push I need to switch.
There are supposed to be some Motorola phones with Graphene support coming out soon. Might be an option for people like me who would use Graphene but can’t bring themselves to buy a Pixel.
Yeah, a graphine suppoted phone in my area is 5x the cost of a good quality last gen phone. Thanks no thanks

I’d love to move to a non-Googled phone, but it’s difficult in the US, and also I don’t know how I’d manage my work stuff, which is Microsoft based. It really, really sucks that we have very few options right now, despite all the good open source work that’s being done.
Also, I’m not surprised to see this demand from Google, as they’ve been tightening their Play restrictions in light of their looming move to lock down Android:
