🚧 What did you do to your website today?

i made my theme color gray so character colors stand out more!

it looks kinda… somber? lol but the pink was a little too distracting

Finally I am done. I have updated Velvet’s Smoking Lounge.

I was crying while making this update because it took longer than I wanted it to be. It’s probably bad on mobile, but I’ll cross that bridge when we get there. The updates in question;

  • Splash page is completely different; updates, guestbook and buttons were moved to that page as well as a new background. The Enter Button is also different to fit the theme.
  • More changes to the Home page; Created a background specifically for it. As well as made navigation sign and guide so it’d be less confusing to browse through.
  • Styled the 404 page to fit the theme. It’s simple for now, but works for what I need it to do.
More yapping about how much this update made a bit of my soul leak out my ears.

Just making the Splash page background was already a lot for me; I drafted the concept several times, both on paper and Clip Studio, before deciding on doing sketch/lineart traditionally then clean-up + colours on Clip Studio. I used Inkscape in order to add the text. Also the Enter Button was made separately with two different versions to make the hover animation using JS.

The Homepage was probably the first that was updated because I thought it was the most simple to do at the time, but holy shit I hate how the floor looks. I should have taken more time to fix it, but I was so tired of working on it that I just wanted it done..

My motivation has been going in and out for this site for the past few months, and that’s why I have been updating less. I have so many ideas I wanna do, but I just needed to put this stupid update behind me.

Looking at it right now after it’s all finished, makes me absolutely hate it and I wanna revamp it again. It makes me go AAAAAAAAAA :devastated:

kind of taking a web weaving break because ive been getting cramps in my right arm from being on the computer all the time but today i really really wanted to try 11ty to see if itd work for a project idea of mine and it looks like it will :-) handcoding every page can be fun but for this i need a very consistent structure for a lot of content so it will be better with a SSG

i tidied up the data a lot, used 11tys directory data files. you cant see it but i need less redundant metadata now!

for something you can see, i drew two new pages of Spy School!

well i need a better desc for that

lightweight simple ambitious project of ultra-compact content management system

installs on virtual hosting very easily, just copy it there

compatible with the previous hamster, because there are already more than 100 templates for it

multi-template CMS, you can install a separate template for each page of the site or blog

works even on very old computers just as well as on the newest ones

I added a musing, film review, and a few album reviews. I also began a bookmarks page and have been outlining a “directory” that pushes beyond search.

Since I have a micro.blog premium account I can have up to 5 blogs there.

For a couple of years I was keeping a blog there specifically to track and talk about my reading of science fiction novels. I decided a few months ago to drop it.

Today I brought it back. It is a nice project for me. micro.blog makes it very easy to do book blogging.

Today I updated my “now” section on the main page, added an easter egg/secret page, updated some links and added a new graphic someone made for my webclique the 30+ Club! I haven’t had much time to myself lately, so I took advantage of my day off ^_^

I really appreciate this as a member of the 30+ club!

Oh this is so good! As someone who loves Sci-Fi, I haven’t actually read that many sci-fi series and I have to admit I don’t recognise any of these books (aside from a couple of the classics).

Authors I read years ago include Ken MacLeod (Engines of Light trilogy), Peter F Hamilton (Commonwealth Saga, Night’s Dawn Trilogy), but in the past year I’ve enjoyed Becky Chambers’ books (The long way to a small, angry planet etc). I enjoy both sweeping space operas with lots of political manoeuvrings, and tight character-focused explorations.

I’m looking forward to exploring your updates and taking down some recommendations.

I started a bookish IG account last year but, since stepping away from most social media, I’ve been meaning to bring it back as a website. This is a good motivator.

I’m also a huge sci-fi fan! I love to see this. I’ve gone ahead and followed your RSS feed. Happy reading!

Nice, I like your “listening” section! I deleted Spotify a little while back, and it has been great getting back into the habit of listening to full albums instead of putting a playlist on shuffle…

Since you’re into Radiohead, have you listened to Thom Yorke/Jonny Greenwood’s side project, The Smile? Jonny’s guitar work is even crazier than usual! Great cases in point: https://youtu.be/hx-GOI9ZCpQ and https://youtu.be/TJ4lG5Szr50

Oh, I had no idea that they had a new project! I just listened through Cutouts and am a big fan. Thanks for sharing!

I was supposed to make this update public a few days ago, but I didn’t feel too good and I had a lot of things on my mind.

It’s a short update where I added more stuff to the Studio Luxe writings page; I posted a bit more of my Midnight Poems on Luxe’s site that I have been keeping on the drafts for the duration of the year. They’re not masterpieces by anyone’s common standards, but they were there for me when I needed it.

I added a couple of pages to my templates section! Nothing too fancy, but I had a lot of fun making them :))

I love your themes for the record! vomit heart really hits the spot for me! If I didn’t love CSS so much I’d be using it ASAP lol

You’re welcome! Cutouts is great, and I love Wall of Eyes too (features my favourite Smile song, “Bending Hectic” – those last 2.5 minutes are insane after the preceding 5.5 minutes of buildup). The thing I enjoy the most about the project is that it’s the most-inspired Thom and Jonny have sounded in ages (IMO). I haven’t been able to connect with any Radiohead release since In Rainbows, but I’ve connected with everything released by The Smile.

been having a whirlwind of a week (like most folks) and easing back into being vertical again. (get your boosters if you can!) i did a bit of self-care today by playing with code. forced myself to work on something i’ve been wanting to make for a while: a https mirror of my gemini capsule, which i lost access to update a while ago, so i can update it again.
