🚧 What did you do to your website today?

It’ll be a bit before the chicks become full-grown chooks, right?

(Don’t mind the Aussie-speak; my wife’s an Aussie and some of the slang rubbed off.)

Yes, though how long depends on where you count ā€œfull grownā€ to be.

They’ll be fully feathered in about five weeks and ready to move to the coop then. Which is good, as the brooder will feel crowded to them by then.

Normally they reach egg-laying age around 16 to 20 weeks, but that’s October, so it’s more likely mine will molt to put on a winter coat of feathers instead. They usually don’t lay in winter unless they are exposed to artifical light, but their first winter I want them to use their energy staying warm, so I’m not lighting the coop. They’ll probably begin laying next March.

They usually lay for 3-5 years and live 7-9. Some breeds live longer. Some hens lay longer. I’m curious to find out what my girls do.

tiny update but now at the end of each blog post you’re invited to email me. so if people have comments about the post they don’t have to send them in my guestbook

I made a few topics on my forum, but I’m pondering if I should implement an animated scroll later today or tomorrow. I heard about it last night and it seems like it’ll be a neat addition to my website.

Made a toybox page to store cool pixels I find :] I’ve always like the concept of them but didn’t know if I should put it in my about page which is full of stamps and userboxes, or make its own page … finding a code snippet to organize them just made me decide to do its own page

I was inspired by @prismaticpink 's perfume page and started a similar one for my indie perfumes. I loved the thread the other day of ā€œwhat do you wish people asked you aboutā€ and one of my favorite things to do is to introduce people to delightful smells lol.

I’m using @xixxii 's milk crate layout and will see where it goes from here!

It was yesterday? I think? But I updated my jukebox to have my full playlist.

Aaand I found out today that my jukebox is now broken. I think Neocities implemented some new security measures that block it. :frowning:

Raw deal! It’s always something, isn’t it?

For real, I’m so bummed. I really loved how that page came out.

I’ve moved my website hosting to a local VPS and serving it up to the WWW with Caddy! Pretty happy with everything so far. Have a few tasks to clean up apache related stuff to work with caddy (redirects, 404s etc)

Had to abandon my shared hosting plan as after some infrastructure/firewall changes on their end my deploys from Github Actions broke!

Yay, good to see another Caddy user here! :meow_cheer:

It’s more over the past week, but I decided to rip my site down to studs and build a new version by hand (the original is still up, so technically not a teardown). I was feeling a little confined by the static site generator → cloudflare pages approach, so I set it up on a VPS. I think that’ll give me a lot more flexibility all around. Certainly gives me more things to play with.

I also set up a gitea server with an actions runner so I can move off github and build some CI pipelines for projects. I’m looking forward to that.

I’m a little concerned that I’m falling into my usual trap of spending all my time building website infrastructure and none of it actually having a website. But I like tinkering with infrastructure so maybe that’s one of the ways the personal web manifests for me.

I was super surprised to see how straight forward it was to get going. Will take a look at setting up my subdomains once I’m settled up north!

I used to be fascinated by indie perfumes and remember even managing to get some BPAL stuff. Unfortunately, shipping and customs are ridiculous if you’re ordering from Europe and most of the best-known brands and sample services are based on the US :( Or at least, they were. I need to check if there’s more options here nowadays.

Anyway, all this to say I loved your page! I love reading about perfume even when I’m not buying anything. The creativity that can go into combining different notes to make something is just so cool to me.
