Too high, too far, too soon

There was quite a bit of gnashing of teeth in my basement yesterday.

Last weekend I thought I had everything planned properly. I was going to start a new site, change the domain registrar, renew the SSL certifcates I already had and get new ones for the new site.

Between a couple of spelling mistakes, putting the certifcates in the wrong order and not allowing enough time for the DNS records to propagate I made a complete hash of things. I couldn’t restart Apache, as by then the cetifcates names didn’t match the server. By the time I thought I had fixed everything I got a messsage from Let’s Encrypt saying I had made too many requests and had to wait 32 hours before I could try again.

Everything up and running again now and I’m happy again, but I most certainly was not yesterday.

Oh, man. That’s a rough one. This is why I prefer the use of CI/CD templates – it helps minimize the likelihood of human error. At the end of the day, though, a spelling mistake is a common mistake, and it happens!
