The Persistent Signal: Call For Participation

I’ve been thinking a lot about RSS lately: how it quietly persists, who keeps it alive, and what it means to people who never abandoned it (or who found their way back.) So I wrote a call for participation: fifteen questions about how you use RSS in practice.

It’s less a survey and more an attempt to document RSS culture. I want to hear from people who tend their feeds. I suspect that’s a lot of people in this community!

Once I have enough responses, I’ll write a retrospective. The survey stays open indefinitely, so there’s no rush.

And because your time is worth something: everyone who responds gets a free digital zine from my catalog. Your pick. If you’re inclined, thank you ever so much!

Loved the questions! I recently got into rss and have been working on a custom “dashboard” for handling RSS and other ongoing things in ways that don’t make it a to-do list (inspired by the recent article on “phantom obligations”). I use SilverBullet, a note taking app that gives a lot of control to the user through its Lua support for widgets and things, which was perfect for something like this.

It looks like this currently:

That’s such a cool idea! I love the interface design.

Are you using a VPS to host it or is it local?

I have a laptop at home I self host various things on, and access while outside of the house from a hetzner VPS running selfhosted-gateway, which is basically an way of making cloud flare tunnels without cloud flare
