I was in the 8th archetype, "The Union Organizer", I think because I believe it is bad and overrated in most areas except danger which put me closer to the transformative side of the spectrum. (Although Cory Doctorow certainly isn’t my patron saint)
I don’t know if it’s ironic, but the copy of this site itself seems AI-generated.

I got the Union Organiser, which is inaccurate. I’m against AI companies using any kind of data without permission (not just creative work) and AI’s current ability to replace human workers is vastly overhyped, especially in artistic fields, and the issues around it are entirely human-made. My main concerns about AI is actually the environment and things like racial profiling.
I’d say the Luddite or Digital Hermit would be more accurate, maybe… or the Tired Parent hahaha.
I don’t know or care who most of these people are, maybe because I largely avoid reading opinion pieces related to the AI discourse, not sure.
Edit: @brennan , that seems like a rather ironic oversight on the quiz maker’s part!

I got “The Disillusioned” which I think sums up my feelings on AI pretty well.
I’m pretty impressed with the fact that the quiz doesn’t seem to reveal the creator’s biases, though it does suffer from the unsolvable problem of quizzes like this just being impossible to perfect. Mostly because wording is everything, and you can’t predict how people will interpret things. Something the creator seems to have discovered.
Looks like @brennan was right and the site was made using Claude. I’d be interested to know where the creator lands, I can’t seem to find anywhere they’ve said, but they seem fairly pro-AI.

Gotten Union Organizer, which is fair but not as accurate to my current feelings. I have seen some folks close to me using AI and I’m quiet about it as it’s a tool for their usages. But I’m also that one person that would scream to high heavens that AI is a huge theft machine. Not just of artworks by other artists but just people that rely on their own merits and talents in the tech industry for a living.
How can I know whether or not an AI’s output for something like an HTML document or a project is as stable and easier to digest than the same project written by a human that has enough knowledge and experience to know what they’re doing. I also do agree that this quiz seems a little AI written.

But I think (and hope) I’m more of a Conscientious Objector or Union Organizer. Maybe even a bit Luddite. I think gen AI is making the internet worse and taking an awful toll on the planet. My stance on the matter is far from academic detachment.
Apparently I’m very slightly toward the “transformative” side of the axis and way toward the bad side. That part seems accurate, but the archetype it assigned me very much isn’t.

I got skeptic, and was on the border with the disillusioned archetype. A couple questions I didn’t like any of my options for - no “abolish capitalism and the state” options (/hj). E.g. for the education question I selected “the assignment needs to change, not the student” because that was the closest to “this is only a problem because we’ve designed our education system around getting good grades, encouraging cheating over treating learning as an intrinsically rewarding activity”.
The cells for archetypes are interesting, but I’m skeptical of their accuracy. The 15 questions each representing different positions on a specific aspect of AI really means you have 15 axes, and I think it may have been more interesting to just give each response to each question a name/description

I got The Conscientious Objector, am a certified hater and really don’t like when people talk about people who don’t use AI as being ‘scared’ or ‘unfamiliar’ with it, when I just straight up hate it. Kinda hilarious if it’s an AI-written quiz but would be nothing new, AI big tech is also behind a lot of the anti-AI-regulations and machinations

I def dont think its deliberate contrarianism but I also feel its kind of unfair to imply that the side that opposes AI is allergic to nuance. It’s a fact that Gen AI is built on theft and that data centers are huge polluters that negatively affect populations, of people, animals, plants etc. that live near them. Plus it objectively produces worse creations, be it art, text, etc. I dont think there’s much to be nuanced about here, these are clearly very harmful and very real impacts. If we lived in a world where AI was built on work that was obtained with consent and compensation and it was powered through eco-friendly means, I still wouldn’t like it but I wouldn’t be nearly as strongly opposed to it, so I totally see your perspective in this sense. But that world doesn’t exist so I think arguing that AI can be useful/good in a hypothetical world is a bit distracting from the very serious and present issues of it.

See, that’s all the stuff I totally agree with though! My issue with the lack of nuance is from the discussions around how it’s used, who is using it for what, whether using it rots your brain, who we should be fighting in order to fix the issues with it, etc.

Ah I see! Yeah, I’d agree with you there that those discussions need to be had properly, actually backed by evidence. But I guess my point is that while we don’t have the power to make AI more ethical even these nuanced discussions and their conclusions have no tangible application, so I’d rather just not rely on it at all until we can make those discussions into reality. Like ideally there’s a lot of stuff I wouldn’t buy or consume rn because of how unethically it is produced but I do need like groceries and clothes, etc. but AI I can live without so I’d encourage anyone to not use it in it’s current state

A friend of mine wanted to see if the patron saints of each region would actually fall in that region based on their responses to the quiz. They had claude find each person’s region based on their views and made this graphic of how far they were from their assigned region
Claude use aside, I think this demonstrates the inaccuracy of the quiz well.

You’re fascinated by what AI means more than what it does, and you take the weird downside scenarios seriously while everyone else rolls their eyes. You think in probability distributions. The ‘just autocomplete’ crowd and the ‘it’s alive’ crowd strike you as equally unrigorous.
I think it shifted me to “transformative” because I said I predict it will take jobs. I personally know too many people (esp illustrators and artists that work on commission) that have already lost income
