Response to DHH

reminds me of the fact that his twitter banner is a shitty AI gen superposition of a WordPress logo. very professional CEO look there

IMO, the fact that he’s still on Twitter at all is not a good look. The place has been a Nazi bar since 2016.

Some people are incapable of leaving that place apparently. I don’t know why.

ā€œnetwork effectsā€, supposedly. Sounds like a cop-out, to me. Maybe it’s just that neurotypical people are scared shitless of being the first in their group to leave a toxic space because nobody might follow.

oh, believe me, the neurodivergents are still there, and the leftists are very much still there too, esp as algo is still capable of accommodating them and giving them what they want.

seasoned twitter users don’t have that much incentive to leave because twitter has been a toxic hellpit for a long time, and the toxic aspect hasn’t changed that much with musk’s acquisition. if you’re still capable of getting publicly mad online and blowing your mental on meaningless crap, twitter is still the place for you.

Hell, I can do that on my own website, and thus not help make Elon Musk richer.

Sorry to circle back here, but MW doesn’t seem to have linked to whomever DHH is, and I have no idea who that is. Does anyone have a link to the post Matt’s responding to?

I’m currently using Wordpress to run my Virtual Pets site, so I’ve been more than a little nervous through this whole fiasco. That said, my personal blog uses Classicpress, and I’ve been much happier with that, so I’ve been considering switching for a while. It’ll just be some work to get the layout up and working, so I’ve been putting it off.

That said, I’ve been following the situation via this blog post here, and I’m not surprised by this behavior in the least. MW’s commandeering of the Advanced Custom Fields plugin is probably the most egregious thing I’ve ever seen happen in an open source community.

DHH is this guy. I think the post matt was originally answering was this one: Automattic is doing open source dirty

But Matt has since deleted his original post. I do have a few screens though if you need.

Ok, thank you! I was mostly interested in seeing what he was referring to.

Which post has Matt deleted? I’ve been (sadly) following this pretty closely and, to me at least, it looks like all of his posts are still up.

The one linked at the top of this thread. The current post is not the original one. He took down the original and then reposted something new. The one live now in fact starts with ā€œI’ve taken this post down.ā€

Ahhh, that makes sense. I hadn’t bothered to re-read it to notice it was a new version. Thank you for the explanation!

Oh and for anyone who wants more detail on what’s been happening, this is a nifty resource: https://bullenweg.com/

The more I read about this story the more I’m confused about what’s Matt’s end goal with this move. Like I can’t accept this is just a way to get some money from WPE, there has to be something else going on. Either that or he’s just having a very public breakdown. Anyway, it’s gonna be interested to see how it end.

the difference is that ragebait gets delivered to you via firehose so you always have an overabundance of stuff to be mad about. revolutionary!

I suspect you’re being sarcastic, but Matt Drudge was doing a better job of serving up ragebait for idealists like me back in 1995. Presented for your inspection: the Drudge Report.
