P&B Award: Looking for feedback

I posted about this a few days ago on my Ko-Fi page but I’m looking for more feedback so i’m gonna post here as well. Some of the people on here know about this already but I happen to run a series called People and Blogs.

From the beginning, the goal was to showcase how many wonderful human beings are out there, still blogging about everything they find interesting and to encourage more people to ditch social media and start a blog themselves.

But I can’t stop thinking about other ways to promote this more sane way to live the web and in the past few months I’ve been thinking about an award, idea that was in no small part inspired by the Tiny Awards

My idea is to set up some sort of very simple award with a small monetary prize attached to it.

As I wrote in my ko-fi post, I don’t want to write too much about the details because I’d first love to know what you think about the idea in general and not be influenced by the fine details (that are far from being finalised)

So let me know what you think. Is it worth doing? is this a stupid idea? Which rules would you put in place?

i love this idea!!! i think there’s so much room in this space for this kind of stuff and it’s such a good way to get the word out i think.

Yeah my goal is to try get people a bit more interested in this idea of owning their own space and we all know that if you dangle the money carrot people tend to pay more attention

I don’t want this to just be a money thing though because that’s honestly annoying.

i agree — but i think there’s enough people in this space doing it for the love of the hobby and could benefit from some award money.

Oh absolutely. I’d say the vast majority is doing it just because they love doing it.

Anyway do you have any suggestions for how you’d set up such an award? As I said, I do have thoughts but i’m interested in hearing what other people think.

I love this idea! Would the awards be voted on by an audience, or chosen by you? Will there be categories, a ‘rubric’ (not as strict as an actual rubric, obviously, but more of a ‘this is what we base the awards on’ thing)? I’d love to follow along with this and see where it goes ^^

So since I want to try keep this incredibly simple for a V1 I don’t plan to have categories. This is aimed at “personal blogs” with a very loose definition of what personal means.

I don’t plan to pick the winner (or winners). My idea was to let people submit their sites, do a first pass, compile a short list and then let someone else pick the winner.

My idea is to find 7 people that will vote on these and the award should be both about the content and the container.

I don’t want to have many rules attached to this idea honestly but I’m also trying to make it interesting.

So far, the only rule I’m sold on is that the blog has to live on its own domain name, so no free subdomains. Don’t care about platforms, tools, builders, tech stack, you name it. Can be whatever, but it has to live on its own domain name.
