Iām not a huge fan of web archives either from a privacy standpoint. Websites I built when I was a teenager in the early 2000s are still accessible through the Internet Archive. On the one hand, itās kind of adorable to see my old sites (td and tr ⦠everywhere!). On the other, I overshared big time back in those days. As much as Iād love to link to those old sites of mine, I canāt, as Iād essentially doxx myself in the processā¦
Iām not opposed to archiving in general, but I also donāt like it that the right to disappear off the face of the internet canāt always be respected. I think archiving should be opt-in only.
This is a good take, we have the right to be forgotten. The writing merit of Kafka doesnāt mean his wish of having all of his work destroyed shouldnāt have been fulfilled. I think itās a cruel paradox of the Internet that those who want to be deleted are liable to the Streisand effect and those who want to be remembered are liable to Murphyās law.
Huh. I currently use 11ty, but my website is sort of on pause until I can switch it to something else. Iām not sure how I feel about this - on the one hand I am kind of the intended audience, because I would like a simpler way to make updates⦠But on the other hand I donāt want my site to end up looking like everyone elsesā.
Last month, I got pretty fed up with the excessive bot activity I was seeing in my websiteās logs and decided to eliminate my full-text RSS feed⦠today, I brought the feed back, because doing more research into the web scraping problem since then has made it pretty clear to me that determined scrapers are going to get the data they want no matter what.
i appreciate the in-depth take on this because the only response iāve been able to come up with is āuuuuuuuugh.ā lol. not excited that this is the direction theyāre taking. realistically nothing should change about my webmaking process (if weāre to take what they say about the free tier as-is), but iām just exhausted by this trend of tools i use changing for an audience that doesnāt use their product.
looking forward to how lame iām gonna sound when i say āthis site was made using Build Awesome⢠(Free)ā
There are some of us here who use Eleventy, yes, and Iām one of them.
I have reservations about the rebranding, especially the name change, given how established the Eleventy name already has been, but hopefully this should not change how I use Eleventy to build my websites, so I am not giving up on Eleventy just yet.
Yeah I feel this a lot sometimes. Paradoxically I seem to get the most/best blogging in when I am super busy, even overwhelmed by real life and that moment just bleeds over into personal writing.
Leatherman was initially hired by Netlify to work on Eleventy full-time, but in September 2024, 11ty moved to Font Awesome, with Leatherman joining their team. Now, in 2026, Eleventy is āBuild Awesomeā, angled as the all-in-one site builder for Font Awesome and Web Awesome. But why?
Not to mention the stint at cloud cannon they went nowhere too
Noooo Iām so sad to read this, man. Iām so sorry, I was really holding out hope for you too. I really really hope your next trip pans out, though. Get yourself some good food, Idk. Do something you love, you deserve some comfort after such a disappointment.
