linklings.club - a directory that lists by interest

Since abandoning social media, I was desperately missing the ease with which you can find people with similar interests with it, so I figured out a way to take that part of social media and “personal web-ify” it.

I made a directory site that lists personal web site owners with their specific interests with a quick search function so we don’t have to click around so much to find people with the same interests as us!

Please join!

I’d also love any feedback you may have.

This is cool! I’ll have to add myself when I work out what my interests are :joy:

Yeah. There’s a bit of effort involved with figuring out your interests and entering them into the form but I’m hoping that’s not a big barrier! Haha.

I dropped in some interests. My only comment is that it might be worth having a category or subcategory specifically for computing related things. I was going to get into programming languages I can actually talk to people about / help with but I couldn’t really work out where to put it… Science seems the closest?

Thanks for basically being my testers with these early applications! I’ve made a few small changes based on what you’ve sent  .

@Ritual Good shout on the Computing subcategory!

This is a really neat idea! I submitted my application as well. I tried not to go too overboard with the categories, but I included some new ones, and also added some that were already on there.

I didn’t get a redirect or success message when I clicked the Submit Application button, so could you let me know if you don’t get my info? I have a lot of privacy plugins in my browser that can sometimes mess with form submissions and other stuff.

Unfortunately, I haven’t received anything from you. :frowning:

I just ran a check on the form and email deliverability to make sure it’s not a problem on my end, and I do think it may be your plugins preventing the form from sending.

I’ve added a manual form to the bottom of the page that can be C+P’d and sent directly to email, if you’d still like to join after doing all that work to fill out the form!

(Also, do not worry about adding new interests! That’s the point. I want it to cover everything people are interested in, even if it’s specific and/or niche!)

Ok, thank you! I disabled all of my plugins, and it looks like it did get through this time, so yeah I think that was the issue. Thanks for the help!

This is such a neat idea! Just sent in my application.

Oh I love this idea! And the categories even have sub-categories (I immediately went to music > metal haha!) :star_struck:

Dumb question: when one lists their interests, are you supposed to only list the things you have featured on your site? Or just your interests in general? Like, I’m interested in gaming but have very little actual gaming related content on my site.

General interests! Anything you’d be happy to chat with others about if they were to reach out.

On the submission form, ticking “animation” doesn’t produce a corresponding textbox.

Thanks for letting me know. I forgot to update the conditional tag after trying to make it more obvious that Anime belonged in that category too. It should work now!

of course it did. (sigh) I used my write-on.org domain didn’t I, that one gets flagged as spam all the time. Including on wordpress, where I have an account with that email and post comment as that account.

Is it the dash? dashes are perfectly valid URL characters. Has the domain gotten in some spam list or another? I have no idea. I probably never will.

Thanks for digging it out and adding me  I’m sure I’ll have more interests to add in the future!
