In a recent topic language was brought up in the context of mod transparency somehow. But more generally, maybe it’s worth specifying in the rules that English should be used?
This is especially in the context of an automated message I (and every new user) just got linking to the Discourse new user tips and tricks. This highlights automatic translation as a key feature of Discourse, so you can post in your own language. These features don’t seem to be turned on here (and I’m not surprised as they are AI driven!). But this could maybe lead to some confusion if it’s not addressed anywhere?
It’s because knowing the languages the mods are familiar with, and the parts of the world they live in, would help elucidate some aspects of the culture that we are participating in by posting here.
I had what I considered to be a productive discussion with two mods on that post and my eventual “demand” (lol) was effectively the same one that you’re proposing here – that there should be some clear statement of which languages are permitted.
I started a new topic because I think the point stands alone from that discussion. The main thing I wanted to point out is that the posts by discourse that get shared automatically don’t match the settings of this forum which could be confusing. That’s true on the language and also on the trust level needed for wiki editing. Maybe others?
