Wow! I wouldn’t say that I can’t believe that Google would do that, but not a step in the right direction. Thanks for putting something up that will help!
Yeah, it’s incredible to see the erasure of disadvantaged people by our government that’s happening here in the US, and companies, including tech giants, getting onboard.
We have to resist that in every way possible, however small it may be.
Thanks for doing this. The token efforts these big companies have put out in the past never amounted to much, but the speed at which they were dropped as soon as the wind shifted speaks volumes.
Emailed you a handful of days/months I celebrate :) this is such a nice project thank you for doing it. I think it being community-oriented and made by an individual (instead of like, Google) and taking recommendations from others makes it more useful and meaningful than any of the corporate calendars ever were. Though @Mr_Encyclopedia is right; the speed at which they were dropped really is wild and disheartening.
Thank you so much for your email, I really appreciate it!
I hope this project also inspires others to step up when our governments and corporations let us down. We have to remember that we have each other, and together we can resist and fight back!
What makes a holiday “inclusive” for the purposes of this site? Is the aim specifically on holidays that deal with an inclusiveness issue or activist (e.g. Holocaust rememberance, MLK day) or would like, a traditional holiday from a minority culture also count?
That’s a good question, and I am still trying to figure this out. Trans and Black history-related holidays seem like an obvious choice. A few people asked about holidays/remembrance days related to mental health.
I think I will have to give it a bit more thought, but right now the main challenge with adding a wider variety of holidays is the lack of option for importing multiple/all holidays.
