I Wrote a Letter Because I Fell in Love With a Building in NYC

This is so cute! I love seeing examples of our lived environments touching people’s lives! It also makes me reflect on how the democracy of building cities doesn’t just come from the counter-conduct (protesting changes, working against things that are bad – all important!), praising the things you love is just as important. I may have stakes in this as a future planner, lol, but if you have time and energy do do as this person, isn’t it lovely to engage positively in the democratic process sometimes?

May actually write more deeply about this when I have the time/energy

That’s so sweet, and I love how the architects appreciated it! There really is a positive impact in letting people know that they impacted your life positively, like @Hello_Frode pointed out. There really is no more sincere compliment, is there

What a wonderful article; thank you so much for sharing it! I’ll bet the people who did that work very rarely get noticed that way, from the heart, and it’s so sweet that the writer took the time to do so.

@Hello_Frode that’s a wonderful point about positive societal change, one that wouldn’t have occurred to me otherwise. I really try to focus, in my own life, on “being the change,” especially after reading “We’re sorry we created the torment nexus” by Charles Stross. I try not to let it veer into “toxic positivity” territory, but sometimes people just need to be built up instead of worn down by a thousand paper cuts.
