Framework 13 Pro thoughts?

I have a 16" MBP with a M2 Pro so I know that I have a really good laptop already but I really want the Framework 13 Pro. The upgradability is really tempting me.

I also have a 13" MBP with M2 Pro! Personally, if I were you, I would hold onto it for as long as it lasts. It sucks that Macbooks are completely non-upgradable, but that is partly made up for by being high quality machines that last a long time. And with how expensive electronics are now due to the RAMageddon… I’d rather wait a few years for prices to finally come down before buying a new laptop. And I do feel like the MBP with M2 Pro can last a few more years before being tempted to upgrade.

Agree with this! Framework 13 Pro looks really great and I’d like to have one but with how backed up orders are and the price of memory, I’m going to skip out on it and wait for things to stabilize. I don’t need to replace my laptop anyway.

This is true! I know that logically, my laptop is completely fine.

I just wish RAM prices weren’t such a joke so I could get this incredibly modular laptop.

My research ended up in a T14 Gen 7. It has replaceable (not modular though) ports and a 10/10 Ifixit score. It was a lot cheaper and the build quality honestly seems better.

Downer: you can’t replace the wi-fi card. But that will be mitigated with a T2U Nano (with Linux kernel support) if shit ever hits the fan.

I think they’re great and I’ve considered one, but I’m just too institutionalised with macOS… I can’t face the pain of switching to Linux or (god forbid) Windows.

The only thing wrong with macOS as a UNIX is that Apple doesn’t trust its customers to be their own sysadmins.

yeah it’s a pain. i really love macOS but it’s morphing into iOS to its detriment. hoping that the new CEO might change this but i doubt it
