Footguns moving from Neocities to GithubPages?

Hi Y’all

I am considering moving from hosting on Neocities to github pages. Mostly because I am sick of the slow loadtimes with neocities and want to finally connect a custom domain to my site.

Is there any footguns I should be aware of before committing myself to it? I am comfortable working with git and github. But I am also suspecious of “free” hosting with Microsoft. Is there any risks (other then them training on my data which they already were going to do lol)

I don’t think you’ll have a problem with GitHub pages, but if you are concerned about Microsoft owning it or training on your data, you could try Codeberg Pages or Netlify. I have some reviews of free hosting here. ( or forum thread)

Ta! I’ll check them out I make any decisions

you can attach a domain. no upload restrictions, many social offers (if the site is interesting - they will give more quota, if you invited people who also make pages - they give more quota). in addition - we have a community that really works. these are real people, and they are full of enthusiasm. these are not banal pictures of sites that were made 12 years ago

over the past year I have made hundreds of posts to literally bring people by the hand to the community, those who made pages have not regretted it in any way.

and of course - the admin panel, with a visual editor of your content, without any unnecessary tools, everything is on the site. and web ftp and mail and chats and forums, widgets have been developed for sites, they do not need to be looked for and implemented, they are there and work.
