If I could pay $3 in US dollars as of 2025-01-01 my standards would be a lot lower.
But I havenāt seen a movie based on a video game since Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and that only got the FF name because Squaresoft thought it would put asses in seats.
I was super excited to announce a couple of days ago that I am working on a complete renewal of my entire indie/small website project! :3
I am currently taking the time to get my entire website, including all sub-pages and projects on it, up to speed at once in several categories.
This includes but is very much not limited to:
XHTML to HTML5 migration
Bilingual German/English sections
Semantic HTML everywhere, including microformats2
Full checkup and improvement of all content on the site
Better design and reworked CSS
Massive accessibility improvements
Read the full announcement including a history of the project here (~3 600 words, but with a skip-friendly table of contents):
Please be aware though that what you currently see live on the internet does not represent the state of the rework.
Since I am working on the new version behind the scenes on my own computer, the blog post I linked still is crammed into the old design and structure of the site so I could just get it out there.
I am going through a similar thing for my site! Including going through every page and updating the content as I update the code and file structure ^^; Its gonna take a while thats for sure! Its definitely nice to refresh things after a few years tho ^^
The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Check out the links on medieval marginalia, a carnivorous caterpillar that wears the remains of its prey and the optical telegraph system, the precursor to the electrical telegraph. I write about totally failing at a fun spending spree, adding a new section to my pixel art page and the usual what Iām listening to/reading/watching.
I truly believe that the podcast is the best medium for horror fiction. So I wrote about it, and shared my current favorite horror/thriller podcasts My Post :)
I donāt usually write about gardening, because people tend to expect some kind of Farmerās Almanac sounding thing. My experience of gardening is somewhat more hardcore.
This drives me insane! In r/C_programming there are multiple posts every day asking the same āwhatās the best way to learn C.ā In r/transformers everyone is posting the latest figure they got, which 99% of the time is one from the latest wave currently on store shelves. The way Reddit works creates an incentive to make these low effort posts because it values new threads above anything else. There is little to no discussion going on in a thread from a few days ago, let alone a a few months ago. A thread like this one that has been ongoing for a year is impossible because reddit archives posts after a certain period, making them uninteractable. Itās truly a terrible platform and hobby communities should redistribute themselves onto dedicated forums.
Iām so glad others agree with me. Once I realized that the problem is unique to reddit it baffles me that every hobby / interest group unanimously decided that IT is the platform to go to.
I really like this outlook on Gardening. I kind of think the ācultureā around Gardening (and plenty of other interests) perpetuated by peoples writing about it scares people away from it.
Like I am not a Hippie, Green Thumb, Organic, kinda person, so I assumed that Gardening was ānot for meā because the people that talk about it are culturally so different from me.
But turns out I donāt need to wear a straw hat, and all that to like watching things grow
This is a perfect summation of the way I feel about gardening! Punk as FUCK!!!
And Iād love to hear about your experiences in punk gardening; Iāll bet theyāre fascinating! I love getting down on the ground, right at the level of my seedlings, and seeing what kind of turf wars are going on between the bugs and plants. Itās always something, and itās always dramatic!
@CaffeineAndLasers not to toot my own horn here, but I made a collection of zines a while back, and one of them is called āGardening for Free.ā I had a lot of folks tell me that it made gardening feel accessible to them, which I was ecstatic about, because that was my goal when writing it. Basically the theme I was trying to emphasize was, āplants will grow in spite of everything you do to them.ā
