As I had written in an update to my rant about the IndieWeb, the Web we’re part of should be the default and not need a name. It’s the commercial and corporate Web that needs to be named, because it is a parasitic aberration. Acting as if the real web of personal/academic/non-commercial websites needs a name other than the World Wide Web gives the commercial/corporate Web undeserved legitimacy.
I did touch on the personal web a couple years ago…
The weekly wrap up has been posted! This week I share both some cool links and also some cool music. Plus chat about other stuff.
Staring @starbreaker :P
Oh, dear.
I’m actually working on yet another update to my IndieWeb rant based on comments from json.blog.
I’m very much enjoying this decentralised conversation that is unfolding.
I know of at least one person who probably isn’t, but he can take a number and wait his turn to kiss my ass. =^.^=
Wrote a very short post: The internet used to be great – Manu
I can make one reasonable generalization about Threads users: they have no sense of history. Otherwise they wouldn’t assume that Zuck will not eventually do to Threads what he’s done to Facebook and Instagram.
What if they posted it to their blog and POSSE’d it to threads.net though? :P
They’re still suckers, making Mark Zuckerberg even richer and getting nothing of value in return.
A few thoughts on P&B as a result of an email conversation (and a public post): On People and Blogs and courtesy – Manu
@starbreaker you might be interested in this one since he was one of your suggestions
First, congratulations on P&B being a year old. I’m glad to have been part of it.
I had seen so1o’s post in my feeds when it dropped, and I was a little surprised that he’d refuse in so vehement a fashion. It seems unreasonable, but I don’t know him that well – I just like his style – and he probably has reasons he’d rather not discuss.
I can tell you that the email I got was even less kind. I was honestly quite surprised but I’m just going to assume that he must have his motivations to behave that way. I try to keep it positive, there’s no point in fighting these fights and, at the end of the day, I achieved my goal: I linked to his site, people might discover it that way so i’m happy.
I figured he might say no, but if I had thought he’d be a dick about it I wouldn’t have recommended him.
My entry for this month’s IndieWeb carnival: IndieWeb Carnival: Power Underneath Despair – Manu
@starbreaker not sure if this is what you had in mind with your topic but hey, at least i tried.
I really appreciate the additional insight into your project that this post provides. Thank you for writing and sharing it.
It’s close enough. I’m not about to tell people how to write; I provided the prompt and I’m doing the roundup. The rest is up to those who, like you, care enough to respond.
I’ve already got your post listed in the original post, but there will be a round-up post in early October as well.
Hopefully people will say things about my post that I can use in the round-up instead of talking about my own post.
I worked really hard on that photo edit of the “hungry tourist” (but not really lol)
