Announcing webweav.ing: tools for the indie web

I’m pleased to announce our latest project: webweav.ing! In line with our mission to make the indie web more accessible to newcomers, webweav.ing will be a collection of tools designed to ease pain points and add some fun to the web. You can log in with your 32-Bit Cafe account!

The first service is a hosted guestbook solution. With some popular guestbook services closing in recent years, this seemed like a good opportunity to create an alternative. The aim is to balance flexibility with ease of use to provide a quality experience for both the webmaster and commenters. One aspect of this is moderation tools. Currently users are able to delete or hide comments received, and in the future add a list of word filters for comments and either automatically delete them or require manual approval before publishing them.

Current features:

  • Dashboard to manage your comments
  • Disable comments for an amount of time or indefinitely
  • Embed your guestbook to your website with a WebComponent or an iframe
  • Optionally disable embedding if you prefer linking to your guestbook

Features coming soon:

  • Comment replies
  • Word filters

I hope you find this service useful and enjoy using it. If you encounter any issues, please report them in this thread and I will address them as soon as I can.

A big thank you to the technomancer team for helping me test this during development, and especially @fLaMEd and @xandra for significant contributions to the user interface.

This project seems very cool!! I’m unable to log in at the moment, as it keeps saying that I am using an “invalid password”, when I am 100% positive that I am using the correct one.

We are meant to log in with our Discourse 32bitcafe account, correct?

No, you need to log in with a 32-Bit Cafe SSO account, which is not the same as your 32-Bit Cafe Discourse account. If you don’t have a 32-Bit Cafe SSO account, you should be able to sign up on the SSO log in page.

This is so cool! Maybe I’ll add a guestbook when I start working on my site again~

What an awesome project! Also love the URL. I’ll definitely be using it for any future projects.

The guestbook seems very neat!!! I’m in the process of potentially changing my URL, but once it’s changed I’ll absolutely switch over to this.

Your URL isn’t set in stone on webweav.ing, you’ll be able to update it once you change over.

I can’t seem to sign it on mobile. It keeps giving me bad gateway errors, both on Iron Fox and Chromite (which I recognize are “locked down” browsers, I made your site annexception to all the rules just to ensure it all works).

And it is spesifically your guestbook. Flamed’s worked fine. So I’m not sure what’s up.

Either way figured to mention it in this thread in case it’s a bug with the software ^^

Do these locked down browsers disable iframes?

No, the iframe loads fine and I’m able to fill it out. It just displays an error when I actually hit submit.

Looks like something is misconfigured on my end, I’ll get that fixed. Thanks!

EDIT: fix is live

Tried again, both in chromite and normal chrome. Still get the bad request when I hit submit :c not sure what could be causing it, but given it happens on plain chrome it means its not the browsers being weird (beyond it being a mobile glitch only affecting the iframes).

I’ll try signing it on the computer when I have the chance as I now have my intended message written elsewhere lol.
