Hey guys. So I’ve been working on a small journaling platform over the past few days and would love some honest feedback. It’s meant to be a simple place to jot thoughts, track entries over time, and interact lightly (likes/comments) without a lot of noise.
You get one prompt each day, can share your thoughts on that prompt and share with other users on the platform, and there’s an archive to revisit older prompts. It will be fun to revisit your old entries/thoughts in the future.
It’s still early, so there are rough edges and I’m sure I’ve missed things. If you have a moment to click around, I’d really appreciate thoughts on what feels confusing, what’s missing, and what you’d expect from something like this.
Happy to hear feedback on:
usability and layout
performance or bugs you notice
what features you think are unnecessary or worth adding
I’ve put the website online at daynote.club - thanks in advance for taking a look.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us–I gave it a go.
First off, I was really impressed by the speed of the page! It works really well.
That said, 300 characters might be a bit too short for a sort of diary entry. You might find that users want to do a bit more, even if it is designed with microblogging principles in mind.
Relatedly, there is no character limit for comments. As a result, if you want the character count as a hard limit, the comments section might allow writers to add more. One way this could be controlled is by preventing comments on own entries, although it wouldn’t allow a user to respond to other people who are responding to them. I’m not sure the best way to approach this, or what your aims are.
Another thing is that it might be helpful to toggle anonymity on/off for specific entries. For instance, say I journal a bit every day. But, some entries might be much more personal, and I might not want others to track it back to me. It might be helpful to have a filter for this (as well as profile privacy settings).
Finally, it might be good to have a light/dark mode as a toggle. As much as I love dark screens, I find it best to be able to switch depending on the time of day.
All of these comments aside, I really like what you’ve done here–it’s a cool idea, and I’m really glad that you shared it with us!
i signed up, and its looking great! in addition to everything Luke said above, id like to be able to reply to previous prompts, edit my own replies / comments, see comments in profiles (or at least jump to the prompt page from clicking on the reply in my profile), block people, toggle to show / hide the like & comment made / received stats, delete my account
also i think it would be great if “writing the response on my own blog and linking it on daynote” is a, some sort of, recognized practice, like if i write it up on my own blog and only reply on the website with a link and you generate an embed, something like that!
i signed up, and i really love this! such a nice tool to get your writing started, especially if it’s incorporated into a daily habit. sometimes getting started on writing can be tough and just answering a question can help a lot! i love that you can answer past prompts!
frankly, i think if you left it as-is it would be a complete project. it’s so simple, it’s really nice. sometimes the simplest things can just be It.
but! if you wanted to get ~ funky ~ with it, you could add themes for overall site look and/or user profiles with font changes, visual differences, and vibe setting color palettes.
the only thing i’d give a note about is i’d like the profile stats text to look more visually clear instead of using slashes. but that’s such a minor thing!
amazing job on this! thank you so much for sharing this with us!!!
