Thanks. Do you link to any of this on your website, though? If not, then people might not be able to find them.
The journal and (broken) comic ones are on those specific pages
I like this idea a lot, but I also highly agree with Sunny. What I like is the idea of a webring consisting of all of the 32bit Cafe’s regular posters/actually active community members, but that would probably seem exclusionary and be difficult to manage.
Having everyone in the webring that so much as applied for an account is a major weakness of the Melonland Surf Club – which, granted, isn’t really intended to be a Melonland forum webring, but just a webring of indie websites. But, still.
I like the idea of having an official list of the sites of anyone who regularly posts/has posted on a certain amount of different days much more. Ideally, it would be an opt-in with the ability to leave at any time, to combat concern trolling. This might still have the issue of people posting a few times just to join the list, though.
that does exist with the discourse badges functionality!
Everyone has made great points that I largely agree with. One thing I’d like to point out is the event roundup pages are a good way to find the sites of active community members. The events are pretty inclusive, too, since the only requirement is making a page within the theme. Obviously not everyone participates on every event (I have a hard time finding time myself) but the archive of event pages will help you find the sites like 75% of the active community members.
Well, yes, that is true. But by responding to only part of my post, and only half of my sentence, I feel like you’re kind of "I think Coolsville sucks"ing me, lol
The problem I’m describing isn’t that you can’t opt out. It’s that every single person who has an account is able to be in the webring with ease, no matter how active they are.
The idea of only having a ring with active community members is what leads into the thought about Melonland Surf Club, see?
No, I don’t think a cafe webring is a good idea.
I still firmly believe that a webring should contain a ring of websites that are related to each other by topic or niche.
Thank you for saving my website on your list! My current site is https://binarydigit.city and the feed is https://binarydigit.city/feed/ FYI ![]()
Sounds like a bit of fun among friends, a ring for all forumdwellers who wish to join. Can’t say I imagine it will alienate people or require much policing - just a little shared hobby project on the side, what would it encompass? A few dozen sites? See how far we get with good will and good faith. Probably have a rule like ‘only join if you do occasionally participate in the forum’ (or Discord, I am told there is a Discord). I wouldn’t be opposed to hosting it, or helping out whomever else wishes to host, if it does happen.
My two cents, as they say.
I think the consensus from others was that it was not a good idea. And despite the fact I started the thread, i ended up agreeing with them.
