heads up: cancer, death of a child
In my journeying today, I found Eric Meyer’s website, where, among other things, he chronicled the process of welcoming his daughter Rebecca into the family and then enduring the nightmare of her terminal brain cancer diagnosis. You can read his ‘Rebecca’ category here.
I don’t know quite how to describe the love and gratitude I feel to Eric for sharing his experience with this unfathomable horror. I was weeping as I read it this morning, crying for a family I’ve never met and a death that happened 12 years ago, because of Eric’s decision to be honest and vulnerable and raw through the process. I feel a bond of common humanity to Eric and his family.
I share it here because it reminds me of how meaningful and impactful our storytelling can be. Personal sites matter because we matter. You matter. What a gift it is, with our precious life, to devote our attention to someone or something.
Also, in reading Eric’s site, I also learned that the CSS color rebeccapurple, hex #639, is named for Rebecca Meyer. I’ll hold her memory now whenever I’m looking at lists of colors.
