📝 July 2026 Blogroll: Share your blog posts!

The Weekly Wrap Up is posted! Links this week include information about a nationwide community art exhibit you are invited to make fabric panels for, the Hello Kitty Lawsuit Tracker and a digital graveyard of websites with a lot of detailed information on the sites, plus a few that are still hanging on by a thread. I’ve been doing some more postcarding and I talk about my webweaving process (which is scary). Plus, as usual, I listened to, read and watched things.

I was up late doing some thinking about what America and being an American even means 250 years after the Declaration of Independence. So, political as hell.

Wow, I started reading on the train and quickly realized this is a “save as a bookmark and read when I actually have time and attention” kind of read

I’ve been impressed by that fraction I’ve read so far though

I think people just really like boxes/labels, and to then pretend those boxes aren’t as messy as the rest of the world. It can be comforting. I believe we really don’t fit in boxes though - we’re all messy and contradictory and nuanced and, above all, ever changing. I get some boxes might feel a bit more stable than others, but tbh I think a lot of problems come from us treating the boxes as they existed in our childhood as the baseline from which all changes afterwards are deviations from. A lot of “traditional” practices and values are only a couple generations old, and it’s silly to try to reify them and to discourage thinking about them critically.

So, that stubborn resolve of mine didn’t last long. I still feel like a hypocrite two days into owning this thing, but it was ultimately the right decision for me. If I didn’t have such a large PS library (including several games I hadn’t played yet when my original PS5 got stolen), I wouldn’t have even considered it.

Thanks, I hope it proves worthwhile when you get around to reading the whole thing.

It’s your money, and since you have a substantial PlayStation library it’s not like you won’t get your money’s worth as long as the console lasts and the games remain available to download.

ill be honest this post is mostly just to keep this blog from dying
and i have very few other ideas

Listen there is no “minimal post requirement” for a blog. I drop something like once or twice a month and that’s plenty enough.

Fr don’t feel pressured to “keep up the content.” That’s exactly the mentality most of us are here to escape.

Exactly. I mean, I hadn’t dropped a single post between 2026-01-01 and 2026-07-01, but now I’m back. We are not content creators, except when using the toilet.

I had written this back in January 2026, but I wasn’t ready to publish it until now.

Because I’m going to see them on Friday night, I threw an old post about my connection to the boy band Five back up.

Another short complaint about a “gotcha” I keep hearing and am driven mad by

That’s fair, but I tend to distinguish between labor and work. I do the former for money, and have no ownership or emotional connection to the product. I do the latter for myself.

Fair enough, but I know plenty of people who’d use “work” to describe the former, aswell. There really isn’t a meaningful distinction between the two terms beyond any individual sentiment.

My website classifies this piece as an article rather than a blog post, but I have published a long piece about a toxic former acquaintance from the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic modding community.

Content warning for emotional abuse and manipulation combined with ableism.

Yes, and while I don’t have the disc drive attachment yet, I do plan on getting one for even more savings on games. In saying that, though, it’ll be very interesting to see what happens to the price of used PS5/PS4 games going forward… I could see people wanting to capitalize on the sudden glut of people looking to buy used to stick it to Sony.
