IndieNodes - Webring + App for Musicians, Artists, Writers, and Game Devs

Hey all,

I’d like to introduce a long time project I’ve been working on: IndieNodes :raising_hands:t5:

What is it?

IndieNodes is a webring whose goal is to introducing more people to independent musicians, comic book creators, artists, writers, and game developers. While it does work like a traditional webring complete with membership directory, I’ve also created a custom web app that acts as a no account, no tracking, no algorithm, no favoritism way of digesting it either as an ambient passive player, or as an active experience.

Highlight Features

  • Creator type nodes that pull from the IndieNodes webring at customizable intervals both at the app global level or at the node individual level
  • Drag and drop nodes anywhere and resize them to your preferred size and placement
  • Undo/Redo levels along with 5 preset banks to get the exact layout you want, or to recall dedicated layouts for certain conditions or setups.
  • Audio creators get a media player complete with playlist, draggable mini player, continuous play, preview, and if the background supports it, reactive backgrounds that change to the beat of the audio
  • Visual creators like Artists and Comic creators get a full visual previewer complete with zoom, pan, keyboard navigation, full screen and all pages view
  • Writers get scrollable text nodes, along with a TTS engine for reading your text, but also the option to have your own audio recording to read the text instead.
  • Game Devs get an in app trailer player
  • Favorite your favorite creators to recall later, or dismiss the ones you would rather not see in your personal rotation
  • Zero accounts. Everything stored on your current browser. No email harvesting, no algorithms.
  • Install the app as a PWA and take the app for a Fullscreen experience
  • Ambient Mode allows you to open the app as a minimized kiosk like view where you play a set of visual and audio content together, one set at a time, allowing you to slowly discover creators. Great for putting on a dedicated tablet, frame, or browser window and just letting it run.
  • Import and Export your settings to other devices
  • More settings options to further customize your experience including light mode, startup options, global node type rotation timings, background choices, skins (future update planning) and more.
