How to add a button to my signature?

This feels like a dumb question, but after spending about 10 minutes making a cool button in ritual.sh, I’ve spent like 3 times that trying to add it into my discourse signature…

Firstly, it’s not possible to upload here, right? Unlike the post editor there is no image button.

Secondly, hosting on my own site didn’t work, I guess maybe a permissions or hotlinking restrictions issue I could spend some time resolving.

Then I tried hosting it on flickr, which turned it into a static jpg. Useless.

Aside from that, it seems it’s only possible to insert using markdown?

TLDR: Where do I host, and is markdown the only way to insert?

(OR alternatively - how to allow hotlinking to this gif, given that my htaccess contains this:

First of all, you are correct that signature images need to be hosted elsewhere (this may be something we can address in the future).

As for your question, you should be able add a line to allow our server to access the image on your server

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://discourse.32bit.cafe [NC]

I’m not an Apache expert so someone else may be able to chime in with a better answer, but that should at least let you hotlink it here for now.

My signature is

It’s markdown, but the dialect allows HTML.

The suggested change didn’t seem to work. I’ve messed around with it a bit more and ended up with the below, but still no workie.

RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?tdem.nz [NC]

RewriteRule \.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)$ - [NC,F,L]

I’m leaving the missing image of shame in my signature. Hopefully it self-heals overnight, otherwise this might need to become my online identity…
