32-Bit Cafe Joins the Fediverse!

Not to fearmonger, but that hasn’t always been the case in my experience. I have every faith in 32bitcafe not going down without good reason, but I’ve seen various fediverse instances with tons of users get taken down on the admin’s whims. It’s entirely dependent on whoever’s running it and how they approach it.

Yeah so I guess it doesn’t really matter which instance I have the account on. I’m just confused if there are differences on how easy it is to connect with others when you’re signed up on different instances, and if maybe there are other differences like if some are more suitable for whatever reason. I think I’m just leaving this for now and just focus on creating websites and maybe adding RSS feeds. I don’t seem to get going on the fediverse…

The main difference between instances on the fediverse (other than what software they’re running, mastodon vs pixelfed vs a number of others) is the admins and the moderation. Some instances have very little moderation; they tend to get blocked by instances with strong moderation, because low moderation means nobody kicks off the bigots and harassers.

I’m on an instance with quite strong moderation, so I can’t see a long list of other instances… but I also don’t see a lot of the harassment that happens that originates from those instances. I find it a good trade-off. It also has a moderation team, not a single admin, which helps prevent admin burnout (one of the reasons instances close).

This is mostly my experience on the fediverse as well. I’ve bounced between several heavily moderated instances and that’s been very preferable to most of my social media experience elsewhere.

This is awesome! Congratulations on joining the fediverse. I think the fediverse is truly the future of the internet. There’s a lot of sites starting to join the network.

Okay, I’m utterly confused now.

I have a Pixelfed app, there I have an account that I want to use in Cafe, but I somehow crated a whole new profile there?! Is it because I cannot join with a pixelfed.social?

Also when I tried to search Xandra, I saw she also has two users?

:face_with_spiral_eyes:

so the way the fediverse works, you’d take your original account on pixelfed and just follow folks from the 32-bit cafe instance (@xandra@pixel.32bit.cafe, for example). you can still interact and follow, but you won’t have a @pixel.32bit.cafe address so it won’t be “local” to you.

you probably found my mastodon account, @xandra@tilde.zone :) <3
